Critic reviews

"George Romero...should snap up the rights to this novel. It has everything: zombies, gore, brain-eating, love, death, even a murder mystery...Kenemore combines humor with horror in a way that is guaranteed to make any zombie fan stand up and shout, Braaaaaains!" ( Booklist)

Two Thumbs Down!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is not a fair review because I could not finish the book. Kenemore is a great writer but this book was boring. The first 5 minuets (car wreck) was good then it went down hill. In the first part the main character does not act like most Zombies; he is coherent, has all cognitive abilities, and is no different than most humans except he discovers he wants to eat humans. This is as far as I got.....I yawned through most of it waiting for the action or real zombie conflict but was only disappointed. I guess it just boiled down to connecting with the main character. I have read other books with Zombies who had emotions or some cognitive abilities like Warm Bodies and Raising Stoney Mayhall but this character was just flat boring and not interesting.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No!

Phenomenal

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I already have, multiple times. I don't generally like people's attempts to write stories from the zombie's perspective, but this was awesome, thought provoking, funny and occasionally shocking.

Fun and Pathos

Any additional comments?

This is an excellent book. The story was well paced. The characters were well done. All in all I feel that this was an excellent ride filled with fun and emotion and some definitely interesting twists on the zombie concept. Enjoy!

If you are looking for action don't buy this book.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, I listened to half of the book and felt very cheated for my purchase; I will be seeking a return credit. I should have listened to the other reviews, but I wanted to give it a chance. Most said it was the reader that ruined it for them, but it is the lack of energy within the book.

Would you be willing to try another book from Scott Kenemore? Why or why not?

Yes, he seems to be a talented writer, but this book was not spectacular by far. He had a good premise, but the story was slow and lost its way.

How could the performance have been better?

Certainly a different reader would have helped this book, but all in all, the story was lackluster.

Was Zombie, Ohio worth the listening time?

NO

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the idea that was brought to this story, but the execution of the actual storyline was poor. That having been said; the writing was very good, it wasn't one of those books that killed you to push through due to poor writing (punctuation, wording, grammar, etc). The book was purely boring and did nothing to hold my interest.

This kept me entertained

This story is a cross between JL Bourne's series and Warm Bodies. If you like 1st person
zombie stories you'll like this one!

I went into this book really wanting to like it

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No really. The story is kind of original but I was expecting a zombie mystery story and what I got was a cheesy zombie story with just a smattering of mystery thrown in just to satisfy the book's description. The narrater was really annoying and I highly doubt I'll ever listen to another book that he reads. This is one of those books that is written to be voiced by Sean Runnette. If it had been read as smart-assy or even dark in points I would have found it more enjoyable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I guess the main character, the zombie.....what's his name. Yea, it was that memorable.

What didn’t you like about Danny Campbell’s performance?

He read it like it was this grand adventure to be a zombie and that it was kind of fun & exciting....even in parts that should have been read more scary or suspenseful.

Was Zombie, Ohio worth the listening time?

not really....i feel like I kind of wasted a credit. It's like when you're a zombie fan (and I am one) and you watch a crappy zombie movie. You watched it and you're sort of glad that you got it out of your system but damn was that a sucky zombie movie with really bad make-up effects. That's how I feel about this book.

Any additional comments?

I don't really blame Scott Kenemore for how bad this book was. I sort of blame the narrator....he was really miss-matched to this story. Sure, Mr. Kenemore wrote some really cheesy lines like, "Hey, look at me...I'm a zombie.....ARRRGGGGGGG". Really, that's what a zombie would say?
