As his family splinters, worlds collide, and the police block all routes out of town, Nick must cope with economic deprivation, homelessness, the gulag of the public schools, a competitive Type-A father, murderous canines (in triplicate), and an inconvenient hair trigger on his erectile response - all while vying ardently for the affections of the beauteous Sheeni Saunders, teenage goddess and ultimate intellectual god.

"Sophomorically hilarious, appealing to the smart aleck within." (Booklist)
"Recommended for adults and mature young adult readers....Fans of Salinger will especially appreciate the candid voice and vivid memories of this story." (Midwest Book Review)
I am 55 years old, a professional, and I am happy to tell you that I loved this book. But I liked American Pie (though I didn't think it was right that they put the Czechoslovakia girl on the net) and other idiotic, immature, and lowbrow stuff too. It is for a person who can let themselves go back to age 13 and re-experience the mindset and erection set. I wonder, maybe my mindset hasn't changed in 42 years and I am not going back.
This is one of my favorite books of all time, and I had the idea that maybe revisiting it in casual audiobook fashion would be a great way to reconnect with the piece...WRONG.
Paul Michael Garcia (the voice) sounds like a Computer reading words one at a time, over annunciating the wrong points and rolling words like he is in a bad Shakespeare in the park play...
This story is ALL Nick Twisp... and it was necessary to find a person who embodied this confused, vulnerable and evolving character. This readers speak and spell reading style is not the correct casting.
An avid reader, who also loves to listen.
I loved the movie and the book while good has been changed a great deal. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it but not quite as much as I enjoyed the movie, which in my opinion was better thought out.
I purchased this because i love the movie and books are normally better than the movie. But not in this case. do yourself a favour and watch the movie and forget the book. It was completely lost of me and the ending sucks.
