Girls like Neve Slater don’t get gorgeous guys like William. But William’s been in L A for three years, and Neve’s been slimming down in preparation for his return. Then her sister Celia points out that if Neve wants William to think she's an experienced love-goddess then she’d better get some experience - a man to show her the ropes, like Celia’s colleague Max. And since he’s not Neve’s type, she certainly won’t fall for him...

I love funny chit lit, just about all I listen to, and this book is at the top of my list! It is absolutely witty and laugh out loud funny in some spots. Best use of humor I've seen in any book in this category. The characters are so relatable and lovable, and while romance is the focus of the plot, it's fun to get lost in all aspects of the main character's life - work, social, family, neighbors, diet, health.
It's nice and long, in a I'm-so-glad-I'm-not-getting-close-to-the-end kinda way!
Can't wait to pick out my next Sarra Manning and Julie Maisey books!
I found myself split at first on this book. There's humor, there's romance and there's lots of sexy moments. However, I found her naivete annoying sometimes, and her self-deprecating comments even worst. And still, if as a woman I'm honest, there are plenty of times when my mind has played the same stream of consciousness that this woman keeps playing in her head. The moment I admitted to this, the book just really clicked for me. A credit well spent!!
Yes!!! without a dout this is the kind of book that allows you to see your self in the female character (Neve), there were moments in the story that had me laughing, moments of anger and frustration and moments when I knew exactly how Neve was feeling.
I think the best thing about this story is that it's an honest one, I've read books were the female character has overweight problems and the male character falls in love with the girl, tells her she is beautiful in every way and that he accepts her in all her glory.
Come on people !!!! life is not like that, the truth is that for overweight girls and women in general sometimes life is not that simple and this book tells it like it is.
This book is defenitly realistic but it also has a beautiful and credible love story
Yes I like her performance, I think she did a great job.
Maybe not in one sitting because it had parts that were a little dificult for me to listen and I had to take a moment to think about them.
This book was about weight, love, family, insecurity and so much more. The characters were well written and developed through this story. I really cared about them. This is a book I will listen to again.
And let's not forget the narrator. One of the best I've heard. Her reading was true to the characters.
This is a GOOD book.
It's a nice and romantic plot. I've been struggling to reach my weight goals and the main character goes to similar situations...
Neve and Max were great together and I love the dog!
She brought some life to the characters. Gonna try to look for some other books that she read.
Yes, couldn't wait for prince California arrives...
Hope to buy some books from this author in future...
Yes, not that I have read the printed version , but Sarra Manning really brought this book to life. It was just a pleasure to listen tp throughout.
I really love it when I buy a book that I have never heard of, purely on ratings or recomendations and find it to be a little gem . Absolutly loved it.
This is a very English novel that has lots of really funny moments and also endearing. Neve is the typical mid twenties girl who falls in love with an idea of a man and will desperately try to change her appearance in the hope that he will love her back. This book covers all the hangups that most women have had sometime during their lives. Ms Manning has encapture many funny moments in this book which will make you laugh out loud as well as gush with lots of 'Ahhhs' and gasp with frustration.
"A funny, intelligent and touching romance"
I genuinely grew to like Neve as the story progressed. She's not just a girl obsessing about losing a few pounds in weight, in preparation for her dream man. She's an intelligent driven woman who has suffered hard knocks but is still one of the most loveable heroines I have read about in a long time. She's not perfect but that's the whole point. This book makes you realise that perfection is an over-rated aspiration anyway.
If you are looking for a book that is funny and romantic but with a plausible and thought provoking story, this could be the one for you.
"Saucy content with a brilliant storyline"
Yes - 100%. Compelling listen
Max - honest and upfront character
The narrator brought the characters to life and her tone was easy to listen to
A brilliant book that I couldn't stop listening to. The characters are excellent and you can imagine each individually. Looking forward to listening to the next book written by Sarra Manning
