#1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz “pulls out all the stops” (Publishers Weekly) in this haunting psychological thriller...

For thirty-five years, Bruno Frye has lived in the shadow of the adopted mother who made his heart beat with constant fear. And even though she died five years ago, the whispers still haunt him in the dark...enough to make him kill - and kill again.

Hilary Thomas is one of his intended victims. And she’s about to learn that even death can’t keep a bad man down...

Fantastic

One of the best story's I've read from Dean Koontz. The narrator also did an excellent job.

Irritating

Why do so many male narrators voice women as whiny, irritating bimbos? It would be better if narrators would just read female dialogue in their normal voices.

Whispers

**Spoiler **

3½⭐ rounded up to 4
I know this book is one of his early ones and I should be more lenient, but it is too long and at the end, what happened to Josiah? Did he live? The narrator mispronounced St Helena and it drove me a little mad 😠. I really like Dean Koontz, but these is definitely not my favorite.

Also loved knowing it was written in 1980 before disco and free love really ended.

Good enough

Decent enough though not his best. It was still interesting enough. The book was a bit anti-climatic at the end.

Wow! Blew me away!!!

Loved this book! Could have done without the smut in it, if I wanted that kind of book I would have gotten a Danielle Steele Book. But it kept me on my toes.!

Good story with twists

I enjoyed the story and although I figured out the twist early on the story was weaved in such a way that I kept doubting myself. Good performance by William Dufris as well.

Entertaining as usual!

As usual, the story was entertaining from start to finish. I agree that there is often a lot of excess detail and character back story, but I don't have a problem with most of it. The interesting and unusual story still kept me interested. However, I was appalled and dismayed at the excessive, brutal details provided for the violent rape and murder. It was horrifying to listen to and it was totally unnecessary. I hope that doesn't happen again.
