Publisher's summary

Five-time Christy Award winner Lynn Austin is acclaimed as “one of the genre’s best historical fiction novelists” (Library Journal). Set in Brooklyn, New York, during World War II, While We’re Far Apart is a brilliant blend of captivating characters, heart-tugging emotions, and vivid spiritual truths. While a motherless girl longs for her daddy and a young lady hopes for a second chance at love, this poignant tale explores the uncertainty that stalks the homefront as the “War to End All Wars” rages in Europe.

Critic reviews

"Esther Shaffer, 12, mourns her dead mother and now faces her father enlisting in the army; Penny Goodrich, long in love with Eddie Shaffer, volunteers to care for his children, hoping to marry Eddie when he returns; and Jacob Mendel, a Jewish widower, struggles to find Hashem (God) amid his loss. Their lives intersect as Jacob rediscovers his faith, Penny discovers her past and her future, and Esther begins to understand life and love. Add family drama, D-Day, the Holocaust, arson, and young love, and you'll see why Austin is so popular." ( Publishers Weekly)

Fascinating glimpse at a poignant time.

Well done. Highly recommend this historically accurate look back at critical world events. Those who don't learn from it are doomed to repeat it.

Wow. Really good

It took me awhile to listen in between my daily life but I had it on every night for a few nights until I fell asleep. Then had to go back to play catch-up but Wow! It was so worth it. I wish I could have listened straight thru. It’s sad about Raul who is missing to this day who helped save 100,000 jews from Hungry? Anyways any age can read this. Very good and good reading. Just wish there was a 2nd male voice. The same male voice pretty much for all the men was weird.

Best of Lynn Austin books I've listened to.....

We listen to audio books when traveling. We've listened to 5 Lynn Austin books and this is the best... Story line, captivating throughout, character development, sense of suspense, Christian moral guidance ... Great to the end, no anticlimactic parts ..... can't do an adequate job of reviewing how well this book is written.

Oh My Heart!

Over the last few months I have been eating up Lynn Austin’s books. I’ve never left a review before and wish I’d been doing so all along. This is hands down my favorite author now and I’ll be so sorry when I’ve finished listening to all
Of her books. This story was so beautifully written. I fell in love with the characters as I have over and over again in Austin’s stories. By the end I was in tears. Happy, Joyful tears. It’s the type of book that leaves you feeling like you’re losing a friend when it’s over. Bravo!

Another inspiring book by Lynn Austin. This book taught me many things I didn’t know about the Jews traditions.
Made me cry and smile. Beautiful story.
