Great story with small anachronism

I've been hooked on this series since the beginning and have enjoyed every title thus far. The plots are clever and I rarely guess where it is heading. I have found the unlikely romance unexpectedly compelling. I find the refreshers in which key character traits and plot points from previous books are explained to be a bit jarring sometimes - I wish the author could slide them in a bit more smoothly. One pedantic comment: the use of the phrase "cut to the chase" is anachronistic. The term was coined during the silent film era. The narration in this volume wasn't as good as in previous volumes - there was less distinction between the characters and sometimes it wasn't clear who was speaking.

I plan to listen to more from this author

As an Anne Perry fan - especially the Charlotte & Thomas Pitt series - I was very comfortable with this book. Ms. Porter uses her "Thomas Pitt" voice for the protagonist in this book, Sebastian St. Cyr. Like the Anne Perry novels, this is also historical fiction, taking place in 1812. For those interested, this book contains no "F" bombs, and the only romance scene is at the end with Sebastian and his new wife, but it is not objectionable, IMO.
I am a huge fan of Davina Porter, and she has done her usual fantastic job here.

I kept expecting it to get better...

Would you consider the audio edition of Where Shadows Dance to be better than the print version?

This is a useless question because readers of Audible reviews are going to listen to it or not listen to it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Where Shadows Dance?

Can't think of one.

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

None

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No

Any additional comments?

This was fairly boring despite a good narrator. It had potential, but just didn't quite deliver on plot.

Narration?

Why a female narrator? Although Ms. Porter is an excellent talent, I didn't think she should have been the voice of the main character.

Hero--a mature relationship for Sebastian

Interesting to me that there is this new love relationship for Sebastian St Cyr. After this novel, I can say I like Hero because she is more of an intellectual match for Sebastian. I'm looking forward to seeing them together. Also there was a hint about his birth father but the woman died before she could tell him who it was.

Ms Porter again did an excellent job to present the book.

A great tale of murder, espionage, and new love!! A Colorado reader and listener.

Another CS Harris homerun

CS Harris nevers ceases to amaze me with her ability to weave fiction, science and history into a great mystery novel.

6 BOOKS IN

I have just been giving stars and no written review. This is such an exquisitely written and narrated series I have to say something. Sebastian St Cyr is all that's flawed and perfect about Prerevolutionary England. Of course being American I feel PR needs no further information. This protagonist is made human by the incredibly talented writer and equally talented narrator!!! Rarely, in listening to the 1000+ books in my Audible library have I heard a woman who can successfully do a male voice - many different accented male voices. Davina I bow to your talent!! You have made these books real! I step away every time I push the start button. Thank you. I could not more highly recommend! Choice in books is relative but if you like history, mystery, romance with an excellent narrative. Listen up!!!

I love the St. Cyr series and this book

C. S. Harris has created a multi-part romantic suspense series full of fascinating stories, compelling--and mostly appealing--characters, and difficult to solve mysteries. Her use of detail to create atmosphere, time and place is remarkable. I've even learned a little American history from the interesting perspective of early 1800s England.
In addition, Davina Porter is my favorite narrator, and she does her usual excellent job of bringing us into the era in which the story is set, and voicing characters who are distinguishable for the listener.
This is the first time I've ever wanted to binge watch OR listen to a series. Only my budget prevents me.
