Publisher's summary

How did this happen?

Georgie York, once the costar of America's favorite television sitcom, has been publicly abandoned by her famous husband, her film career has tanked, her father is driving her crazy, and her public image as a spunky heroine is taking a serious beating.

What should a down-on-her-luck actress do? Not go to Vegas . . . not run into her detestable former costar, dreamboat-from-hell Bramwell Shepard . . . and not get caught up in an ugly incident that leads to a calamitous elopement. Before she knows it, Georgie has a fake marriage, a fake husband, and maybe (or not) a fake sex life.

It's a paparazzi free-for-all, and Georgie's nonsupporting cast doesn't help. There's Bram's punk-nightmare housekeeper, Georgie's own pushy parent, a suck-up agent, an icy studio head with a private agenda, and her ex-husband's new wife, who can't get enough of doing good deeds and saving the world. As for Georgie's leading man, Bram's giving the performance of his life, but he's never cared about anyone except himself, and it's not exactly clear why.

Two enemies find themselves working without a script in a town where the spotlight shines bright . . . and where the strongest emotions can wear startling disguises.

Great story Great narration

What made the experience of listening to What I Did for Love the most enjoyable?

The narration

What other book might you compare What I Did for Love to and why?

Susan Elizabeth Phillips is one of my favorite authors - All her books are great- What makes this even more enjoyable is how the narrator handled all the differnt dialogue

Not her best, BUT I've definately heard worse

I think some are being a little harsh on the story and the narrator. While Natural Born Charmer is hands down my favorite SEP book (I LOVED the interactions between the Beave and Mrs. Garrison, hilarious), this one is okay too. It’s definitely a departure from the “Chicago Stars” books which have a decidedly more humorist twist. Not to mention Anna Fields/Kate Flemming was an AWSOME narrator. But she’s gone and we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment if we compare every subsequent narrator to her performance. My biggest issue w/ this production is the cheesy “muzak”-like music, circa 1980, that is played between some of the chapters. It serves absolutely no purpose and is annoying and distracting. Hopefully someone is reading these reviews and in the future they will keep it simple and pair the best possible narrator with the stories.

No music.

I enjoyed the story. The music between chapters was terrible. I nearly couldn’t finish listening because of it. It took away from feeling like I was listening to a book.

Good story, mediocre narrator

I love SEP books but this narrator irritated me so much that I could barely finish the book. She made every character sound like a "valley girl". If I hadn't liked the author so much I would have stopped listening. I'll avoid this narrator in the future.

I'm trying to finish it but I can't

Anna Fields brought sarcasm, humor and different voices to each of SEPs books. This reader is hard to follow and makes the book uninteresting. I'll eventually finish it, but I <sigh> before I hit play.

She should really find a better reader.

What happened?

I just finished listening to Natural Born Charmer and actually laughed out loud several times. Imagine my surprise when I downloaded "What I Did For Love." What Happened? I realize that part of the problem was not having Anna Fields/Kate Fleming narrate, but there was no humor in this story. It's like two different people wrote this and "Natural Born Charmer." I have heard that her older books have more humor in them and will probably stick to those and not bother with any new titles.

Love always prevails!

I really enjoyed this "book". There was more going on in the story besides the main characters. It makes you think the frog can turn in to a prince. Well worth the credit.

It’s great!

SEP is fantastic every time! I can’t read them just once! The narrator was a great one too.
