As good as it gets

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A wonderful tale that belies its age. Storytelling at its very best.

What does Frederick Davidson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Davidson's mastery of his difficult craft always extracts the very best from every story he reads. In this instance, Kingsley's very English story deserves to be read by a competent reader of English - which Davidson certainly is. Not a single mis-step. Perfect pace. Every witty line delivered as intended. As good as it gets.

Wonderful Old Story

We loved hearing the story as part of our Ambleside Online education. Some books we listen to together and enjoy discussing as a break from reading.

Words

I gave Westward Ho four stars. Two for the quality of the words and two for the volume

Listen to the sample first

There may be book here, but I couldn?t get past the reader to hear it. Davidson?s narration is unbearably self-important and snobbish; his characterizations absurd caricatures. He may have his audience, but it does not include this fan of the Age of Sail.
