Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! is the funny, serious, and compelling new novel by Fannie Flagg, author of the beloved Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (and prize-winning co-writer of the classic movie).
Once again, Flagg's humor and respect and affection for her characters shine forth. Many inhabit small-town or suburban America. But this time, her heroine is urban: a brainy, beautiful, and ambitious rising star of 1970s television. Dena Nordstrom, pride of the network, is a woman whose future is full of promise, her present rich with complications, and her past marked by mystery.
Among the colorful cast of characters are:
There are others, captivated by a woman who tries to go home again, not knowing where home or love lie.

This was a wonderful book, but when I looked at the info again and saw that it was ABRIDGED, I thought why? Why would Audible be so ridiculous and even begin to sell only an ABRIDGED version of this book. I did not see an unabridged and am so disappointed in Audible and the producers of this book. Give me a break. I just finished Washington, A life - 42 hours and was thrilled. Then I find that ridiculous Audible produces an ABRIDGED version of the fabulous book. You should be ashamed!
Welcome to the World, Baby Girl is one of my all time favorite books. I love the nostalgia brought by the flashbacks to post WWII America in Elmwood Springs. The story is so expertly woven between time periods and introduces many fun unique characters which provides a rich tapestry of stories. It made me laugh and cry and I couldn't put it down!
HOWEVER, be aware that this is an abridged audiobook. It leaves out many subplots and tidbits that really enrich the world of the characters. Although the story about the protagonist is good, the supporting characters really aren't given their due. It just feels flat overall.
I recommend saving your credits or $$$ and just reading the unabridged version instead of listening.
Listening to Fannie Flagg read her own books is both delightful and inspirational. I can listen to them over and over.
Everyone should read this book! The characters are so well written that you are just sure they remind you of someone! The storyline is very touching and quite surprising😍
The story line. Fannie Flagg has a great why of weaving you through a story, and just when you think you know the story line it takes a sudden twist which grips you even further.
Norma - she was so pure and simple
The sewer pipe and flood.
It made me reflect on my own life which had similar situations.
