It was Leigh Novak's second chance. She left behind a faithless husband to begin a new life with her young son Jeremy—as a family doctor in a small northern California town. But Hartwood held a bitter welcome. Leigh's first patient, a child, died mysteriously in her office. And soon Leigh was too busy to spend much time with Jeremy. It seemed her only friend was Nora—the woman who took such good care of the town's little children. When Nora started taking care of Jeremy, he stopped getting angry, stopped crying, stopped telling lies....
Nora taught her children to be very, very good. If they were bad, she punished them. And if a child was very bad, Nora made sure he would never cry again....

You know what's going on with each character, which means you know the answer to the mysteries. I was emotional with this book, feeling angry and sad with what was going on with the characters. It's a good read and I hope I never come across a daycare like this one!
I bought this audiobook for a long drive. If it hadn't been for the fact that there were no radio stations available where I was drving, I would have turned it off after an hour. but i was forced to listed. After about hour 4 it got better, and I was actually interested. I like how the story goes back and forth between scenarios and characters. it did get a little creepy at times which made it entertaining. I just wish there was more of that toward the beginning, this story was very difficult to get interested in. Over all...it was ok.
