Editorial reviews

"Narrator Kevin Kenerly helps, too, especially since a large part of the narrative takes place inside R’s head, detailing his thoughts and feelings in an articulate, lyrical way that he’s unable to express via his extremely limited zombie vocabulary. Kenerly’s somewhat hushed tones draw the listener in right away, when R has yet to meet Julie and is instead just one more anonymous member of the undead, shuffling around an abandoned airport and occasionally venturing into the nearest city to feast on the flesh of the living. R’s musings about the end of the world and what it means to be a zombie have a stark and beautiful immediacy, and Kenerly gives them all the power and reverence they deserve." (Josh Bell)

Publisher's summary

R is a young man with an existential crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. His ability to connect with the outside world is limited to a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. After experiencing a teenage boy’s memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim’s human girlfriend, Julie.

Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His choice to protect her will transform not only R but his fellow Dead and perhaps their whole lifeless world. Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies explores what happens when the cold heart of a zombie is tempted by the warmth of human love.

Critic reviews

“I never thought I could care so passionately for a zombie. This story stayed with me long after I was done reading it.” (Stephenie Meyer, #1 New York Times best-selling author of the Twilight series)

Great story and narration

Unfortunately the movie did not represent the book to its fullest potential. The movie should have had an R rating.

New eyes to the apocalypse. Completely surprised me by how deep and how reliable this story is. You can't change things in unthinkable levels, and you'll sure effect so many people in the process.

Surprisingly Great!

When I first saw this book on audible, I thought "looks possibly amusing." After a friend read the print version and raved, I decided I'd give it a try, and man, was I pleasantly surprised. The story was fantastic, and a very different spin on the typical zombie tales, and while it had it's humor, the overwhelming intention of the story was not all comedy, at all, and carried some great messages about persistence, and loving life. This is not "twilight with zombies" as I originally guessed. This is a great story of a zombie looking to figure out what he's lost, and on a quest to find it. Definitely recommend this book for a shorter, lighter, but still full of substance story, and a great adventure where you'll love the characters, living and dead alike.

Fantastic story and narration!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Warm Bodies to be better than the print version?

I've never read the print version, but the audio was great.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Kenerly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first of his performances, but I can't wait to hear more!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were incredibly sweet and poignant moments. And incredibly hilarious ones!

Any additional comments?

Such a wonderful, different, fresh story. This book takes common themes and turns them on their head, just a little. R becomes such an endearing character! And Nora is my favorite! Kevin Kenerly performed with nuance and he gave a separate voice to each character. He performed in such a "gentle" way, that the story really comes to life!!! He didn't have to force any importance or drama into the story; he let the story do that. Much of the book is R's internal monologue and Kenerly made it perfect!!!

Loved this so much

I loved this entire story. The performance was really great, and the way it's written is very eloquent. Not your typical zombie story.
