Zev Hassick is surprised and confused when he finds himself attracted to his best friend. His very human, very male best friend. Zev is the son of the pack Alpha, regarded as the strongest wolf in generations, born to lead. And everyone knows a male shifter has to mate with a female of his own kind to keep his humanity. So shifters can't be gay, right?
Jonah Marvel wants a relationship with Zev, his best friend, the man he has loved since childhood. It wasn't easy to maintain that relationship over years spent living apart while Jonah studied to become a doctor. And then things grow more difficult when Jonah becomes his own patient. Before he can make a life with Zev, he has to understand his past and cure the unexplained ailments that plague him.
Zev and Jonah know they're destined for each other, but they're facing traditions ingrained over generations and long-buried secrets that may threaten any future together.

Charlie David, maybe. Cardeno C. No.
Kaje Harper does a fantastic M/M Romance werewolf series that I absolutely love!
It was hard to tell because this story was mostly in the main character's head.
I don't like to go all Editor on a published work, but I couldn't get into this story because of the way it was written. A few chapters in, and nothing exciting was happening. See my additional comments for more on my thoughts.
Series/Standalone: book 1 in series
Book Format: audio
HEA/HFN: did not finish so I don't know
Relatable characters: no
Ratio of sex/plot: the first half was equal
Well written/editor needed: editor needed (see thoughts below)
Would I re-read?: no
Personal thoughts: I couldn't get through the first few chapters. This story is all about the main character telling me what happened mostly in the past, rather than showing me what happened. The narrator was good, but even so, the story just wasn't grabbing my attention. I wanted to know what was going on in the present, but just as we'd start to get somewhere the main character would skip back to some other time. I set the audio book down for awhile, and picked it up again last night. I only got frustrated with it rather quickly and put it down again. I'm sorry I couldn't get into this. I love werewolf stories and I really wanted to like this one, but I just couldn't get into it.
I wanted to like the book because of the premise of the story but this really turned me off. I thought both of the main characters are both alpha males yet they don't exude masculinity at all. Their conversations are like two teenage girls, in fact most of the characters in the story talk the same way. It was the usual fangirl story - the main characters are perfect, the sex overrated, the villain arch is just lousy and the dialogue is so monotonous. I like the narrator though, his voice is quite soothing.
Oh Cardeno C you are making me such a fan. I really like Charlie as the narrator too.
Zev our big strong naïve Alpha is just ALL THAT! I love that he is mature and only naïve in a few things. Zev would protect his mate from anything however... Jonah just handles himself wonderfully, he's not naïve about anything. And he tries to understand and respect his headstrong boyfriend and his beliefs.
Their friendship is priceless from the minute they meet as babe and pup. That is still one of my favorite parts of the story. We truly suffer with both of them as they struggle to completely come together. Don't get me wrong they get their groove on as they try to get on the same page at the same time. All that darn meaningful/emotional sex is still HOT!
Good surprise story line and I was very happy to see my other favorite characters from book one play a seriously good part in this story.
Very happy with this purchase.
Probably but only because Charlie David is reading it and he has one sexy voice.
None really that i have read. i like that it is in the werewolf/vampire genre but shows them in a non-threatening, simple existence with the rest of the world.
sex appeal, emotion, connection, joy
jonah getting caught with another guy was heartbreaking, and the there final connections at zevs house and how zev stood up to his family and packs were fantastic.
Overall totally rereadable and something i will listen to again.
I Luv Audible!!
At first I was a bit skeptical about the book. However it was well written as Cardeno really opened the lives of the characters and had you going through the emotional changes that they were experiencing.
Zev's struggle with his family and his feelings for Jonah were captivating and riveting and so was their tying and the subsequent mating between the two.
The narrator, Charlie David was spectacular. He spoke with the emotions expected of any narrator and gave the characters depths. Truly recommended book for the romantic!!
Great, beautiful story!
The scene where Zev and Jonah finally tied!
I listened to Hot Heads, but forgot about Charlie David's performance! He is as good as Sean Crisden. He has a great job! I have read this book and now listened to it!
Zev and Jonah have a great relationship together. They have a great way with Comic relief. They are best friends, mates and are able to share humor with each other!
You will not be disappointed!
