Publisher's summary

Diana Gabaldon's magnificent historical saga, begun with Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, continues with this New York Times best seller. Set in the intriguing Scotland of 200 years ago, the third installment in the romantic adventures of Jamie and Claire is as compelling as the first. Now that Claire knows Jamie survived the slaughter at Culloden, she is faced with the most difficult decision of her life. She aches to travel back through time again to find the love of her life, but, in order to do that, she must leave their daughter behind. It has been 20 years since she and Jamie were forced to separate. Can she risk everything, maybe even her life, on a gamble that their love has withstood the long, rigorous test of time?

Diana Gabaldon's powerful, witty, and heroic characters lend themselves well to the rich, melodic narration accorded them by Davina Porter. Under her spell, listeners find themselves transported back through time to exciting, faraway places alive with people they would enjoy knowing.

Critic reviews

"Triumphant....Her use of historical detail and truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer." (Publishers Weekly)

**amazing** performance

it is a well written, long and fun book. The narrator did a great job with distinctive voices, accents and was able to transmit how characters felt only with her voice. Truly amazing job.

How far would you go for the love of your life?

After twenty years of living with a man Claire used to love and raising the child of the man she had to leave behind, Claire Randall/Fraser returns to Scotland with her now-grown daughter, Brianna. However, during a trip down memory lane, Claire learns the news that her beloved, Jaime Fraser, survived Culloden and wants nothing more than to travel back through the stones to be reunited with the Highlander that swept her off her feet. The journey is long, and when faced with difficult challenges, Claire will question whether she made the right decision.

Voyager was a long book! It took me a few months to finish it, but every time I returned to the narrative, I felt myself being pulled back into its story and could feel as if I was walking alongside Claire, Brianna, and Jaime.

Did I enjoy it? Yes, I did. I loved how different this addition was to the last, though it was continuing the same story, and I liked that while new characters are being added, the focus never comes off Claire and Jaime.

If you’re a fan of the show, reading or listening to the series is the perfect way to bide your time before the next season airs. I’m impatient to learn what’s going to happen in season 5, am only one step away from finding out! Yay!

so good!

this book has quite a bit more divergent plot from the tv show made after it. but in a way the changes make it more endearing, as it's a surprise. I've been swallowing these books whole since finishing the tv show and finding myself wanting more. on to book 4.

rating less for the racism/fatphobia

The "little Chinese man" stuff and Claires disgust at fat people despite being a DOCTOR was a little to heavy handed in this book. But still an Outlander story to very good.
