Publisher's summary

Diana Gabaldon's magnificent historical saga, begun with Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, continues with this New York Times best seller. Set in the intriguing Scotland of 200 years ago, the third installment in the romantic adventures of Jamie and Claire is as compelling as the first. Now that Claire knows Jamie survived the slaughter at Culloden, she is faced with the most difficult decision of her life. She aches to travel back through time again to find the love of her life, but, in order to do that, she must leave their daughter behind. It has been 20 years since she and Jamie were forced to separate. Can she risk everything, maybe even her life, on a gamble that their love has withstood the long, rigorous test of time?

Diana Gabaldon's powerful, witty, and heroic characters lend themselves well to the rich, melodic narration accorded them by Davina Porter. Under her spell, listeners find themselves transported back through time to exciting, faraway places alive with people they would enjoy knowing.

Critic reviews

"Triumphant....Her use of historical detail and truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer." (Publishers Weekly)

Just beautiful!

Just beautiful! I can't even imagine how much work went into these novels! They are a work of art truly! Started by watching the Emmy nominated series and couldn't just wait for season three to debut, so I took up the novels and I haven't been able to stop! Not only do I own the audio version which is amazingly narrated I have also began to collect the print versions too.

Pure pleasure or guilty pleasure, pleasure it is!

What made the experience of listening to Voyager the most enjoyable?

The narrator is fantastic with her command of accents and changes in tone from male to female characters. (Her American accent isn't as strong, but for that I'm grateful, because as an American I prefer the any of the other accents.)The story is compelling and the details are especially rich. I kept my headphones around my neck and listened to it constantly whenever I had a chance. I will admit that I watched the Stars first two seasons before listening to this book, and I think it was well cast. As such, those actors fill my vision as I listen to the story. I actually enjoyed that, which is not always the case.

What other book might you compare Voyager to and why?

In terms of detail and storytelling acumen, I think the closest comparison are the early Philipa Gregory books and Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth.

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

Jamie Frazier

Incredible!

I love every one of these books and especially, the reader, whose accents are flawless. I read a few of these books myself, but once they were available on Audible, I enjoy them even more because the characters practically come alive.

Loved it

The whole series is exciting, Diana Gabaldon is an incredible story teller, so intent on historical detail that you forget that the characters are fictional.

A dream I wish not wake from.

This whole series has something from every theme one may want. Rich with imagination, culture, and depths of relationships from mere aquaintance to undying love. Davina Porter brings the words to life, making it so easy to get lost in the world created by Diana Gabaldon. Even in the moments I had to pause (which I had much difficulty doing at times) I could hear Davina's voice narrating my own little mundane life making me smile a bit. I recommend this book, and the others in the "Outlander" series, to anyone that enjoys getting lost in the surreal.
