Publisher's summary

A novel about Catholic girls poised - hilariously- on the brink of going all the way, Virgins recalls in aching detail what it was like to be an 18-year-old Catholic high school senior...in the '50s. This book contains the rules and regimen, hijinks and longing of that time.

Well Worth a Listen

The novel is a long time favorite of mine. Rivers writes with wit and insight. For those who like coming of age stories, particularly ones that capture the ethos of mid-century America, Virgins will satisfy. The book will have particular appeal for those who went to Catholic high schools, but I don't think one need share that experience or even be Catholic to identify with the group of friends whose adventures provide the novel's focus.

Dara Rosenberg's performance is generally pleasing. Her youthful voice suits the adolescent narrator, Peggy Morrison. My criticism is that Ms. Rosenberg mispronounces a number of words--understandable if she is doing a cold reading, but I would expect a more polished performance for a professional reading.

Entertaining with some funny parts

Typical take on Catholic Church… not a lot of depth but cute. The occasional family my moments and does capture part of the subculture and irony of guilt

Hire a narrator who can pronounce the words

I loved this book. I did not like Dara Rosenburg's narration of it. She mispronounces the easiest words and it's like nails on a chalkboard listening to her nasal drone.
Back to school for a remedial class in The English language and why we should not butcher it.
