I am an avid eclectic reader.
This is a nice short western story. Westerns make a nice change of pace from the usual books as they reminded me of the Western movies of my youth when right and wrong was so simple. Gene Engene did a good job narrating the story. The story is classic for a western where a 14 year old male youth sets off the avenge the murder of his father. The story moves right along and builds on the Littlejohn family. Life on the ranch was hard and they only had themselves do depend on. Reading the list of daily chores makes one glad to live in the modern age of running water, electricity and modern stoves.
The narrated by Gene Engene is a great performance. This is the first western by Dusty Rhodes that I have listened to. Gene Engene performance is a great and makes for a great listening. Gene Engene put the action into his performance make the story come alive. I would recommend this story to anyone who like westerns with a lot of action.
Baby Boomer in Raleigh NC. Faves include James Lee Burke, CJ Box, Baldacci, Flynn, Child, DeMille, Crais, Connolly, Thor, Coes, L'amour. Average two books/week.
A Dusty Rhodes story is like a screenplay for Gunsmoke or Rawhide. "Some violence" but "no sex" and the good guys always win but not without encountering some perils along the trail. This one was no exception.
I am a long time Dusty fan and recommend his stories to any lover of "Westerns".
Gene Engene is the only voice I would ever want for a Dusty story.
