Publisher's summary

Even at the age of 14, folks were calling him the youngest bounty hunter in Texas. His pa said he was more man than most men. But now his pa lay dead in a dusty Lubbock, Texas street, back-shot by a wealthy and powerful New Mexico rancher. Over his father's grave he swore to make things right. Neither his age, impossible odds, nor a thousand miles of unforgiving desert would keep Tad Littlejohn from righting a terrible wrong.

THEY NEEDED KILLING

WOLF CRIES AT NIGHT
This is my fourth book by Rhodes and the first I could not give five stars too, but believe me AS SURE AS GOD MADE LITTLE GREEN APPLES, I will be reading much more Dusty Rhodes. His stories are not complicated and are guaranteed to entertain. This is a sequel, but can be read as a stand alone. In my wish list is a Rhodes book, called Man Hunter, which I am betting from what I learned in this book, is a prequel to this series. I will let you know.

HE MUST BE TALKING TO YOU, YOUR THE ONLY OLD MAN IN THE PLACE
Here are some small reasons, this did not get five stars. The biggest reason is the slow melodramatic start to this book. It starts with a funeral for Little John who died in book one. (not a spoiler, book one starts out by telling you he is going to die.) This funeral drags out for an hour, which is a long time for a six hour book. I'm not sure why DR bothers to describe the men in the book, cause with the exception of one out of about ten, they are all broad shouldered and have slim waists. The men keep leaving their women at home all by themselves, it happened in book one and in this book. Each book has proven that it is a dangerous country with different tribes of Indians who are known to rape and kill and plenty of bad white guys who do the same. It is a regular event for them to show up at the farm, so why would you leave your women unprotected?

YOU TALKING TO ME SONNY?
Gene Engene is perfect. When filling out my wish list and deciding on a couple of westerns, I noticed one was read by Gene and the other not, so I had no decision to make. Gene will always be my pick.

KEEP A SHARP EYE, I'LL BE COMING SOON

Continuation of "Death Rides a Pale Horse"

"Vengeance Is Mine" is the continuation of "Death Rides a Pale Horse" --- although both books can stand alone. It's about T.J. Littlejohn's son, Tad, who seeks vengeance against the wealthy rancher who shot his father in the back. He practices his gun skills for 2 years and at age 16 feels ready to face his father's killer. He places a $500 bounty on the rancher "Dead or Alive" then goes after the bounty. He, his adopted brother, and a gunslinger turned Deputy Sheriff in Tad's hometown, travel to New Mexico to face the rancher and his hired guns.

Dusty Rhodes westerns are brought to life by Gene Engene. Dusty portrays well the violence characteristic of the old west by men who have no conscience, and the men who want to bring them to justice.

Although I am not into violent literature, Dusty's books are stories with depth and a touch of realism depicting families who lived in that era. I find them quite entertaining.

Dusty Never Disappoints

A Dusty Rhodes story is like a screenplay for Gunsmoke or Rawhide. "Some violence" but "no sex" and the good guys always win but not without encountering some perils along the trail. This one was no exception.

I am a long time Dusty fan and recommend his stories to any lover of "Westerns".

Gene Engene is the only voice I would ever want for a Dusty story.

Vengeance is Mine

This is a nice short western story. Westerns make a nice change of pace from the usual books as they reminded me of the Western movies of my youth when right and wrong was so simple. Gene Engene did a good job narrating the story. The story is classic for a western where a 14 year old male youth sets off the avenge the murder of his father. The story moves right along and builds on the Littlejohn family. Life on the ranch was hard and they only had themselves do depend on. Reading the list of daily chores makes one glad to live in the modern age of running water, electricity and modern stoves.

tragedy overload

It seems the intrigue was over baked.
the story bounced back and forth between scenarios too frequently. got whiplash.
feel sorry for the mom, looses her husband, son leaves to avenge him, then abducted by killers with 2 daughters. everyone the killers come across is murdered, yet somehow they are spared. as thats going on the son and friends are whippin up on the fastest gun hands around. Taking on 50 some dangerous riders, and indian attacks, without a scratch. it's a little incredible.

Gene Engene makes this book!

The storyline is interesting and moved ahead rapidly. Once the story gets started you just want to listen to the end, not putting it down.
