Though forced to fight for the hated British, Morgan MacKinnon would no more betray the men he leads than slit his own throat - not even when he was captured by the French and threatened with an agonizing death by fire at the hands of their Abenaki allies.
Only the look of innocent longing in the eyes of a convent-bred French lass could make him question his vow to escape and return to the Rangers. And soon the sweet passion he awoke in Amalie had him cursing the war that forced him to choose between upholding his honor and pledging himself to the woman he loves.

Pamela Clare whisks you away on an unpredictable historical adventure that's got intrigue, romance, humour, action, suspense and a handful of well developed likeable characters that bring so much depth and life to her stories. It's so well written that you get drawn into the intense plot straight away and spend your time mesmerised as you visualise each chapter's events in your head. You live through the torture, skirmishes, treachery, romance and sacrifice that these band of hunky Highland brothers have to endure for the sake of the Rangers and love.
Morgan's code of duty, loyalty and honour is tested when he's captured and tortured by the French but Amalie who's kind, naive and compassionate nurses him back from death and gives him a reason to go on. However, theirs is a forbidden romance as they're on opposite sides but he is swept away by her beauty and goodness and so they start off as friends and love slowly blossoms into a sweet, sexy, sensual, funny, romantic, tender and touching affair that will, in the end, call for trust, forgiveness, loyalty and understanding. Morgan must choose between love and his duty to his band of brothers and just when he thinks he has then the plot throws in another terrible twist.
Worth a credit? Excellent writing, good plot and a passionate love story - an enjoyable, exciting listen and a worthy addition to the 'Highland Hunks' part of my library - so it has to be a YES.
"HOPEFUL ROMANTIC" ~~ ( 5 = Excellent, 4 = Very Good, 3 = Good, 2 = Poor, 1 = Awful ) ~~ Reviews should never contain "spoilers" ;-)
Going into this book I didn't think it was possible to top "Surrender" (book 1 this series) but I was so wrong. "Untamed" was even better!
"Untamed" is a exciting American historical romance set near the Albany NY region. The story is intense, steamy, heartwarming and unpredictable. Usually I can predict where a story is going but this one kept me guessing the whole way through. The history within this book is compelling and the love scenes are exquisite.
The author has a wonderful way of making the reader feel comfortable and connected with each character in the story. Each person in the story is written with so much depth that they seem to have layers of personality. Yes, Morgan (the hero) is a fierce warrior and passionate lover but he also has weaknesses that are fully disclosed. Amalie (the heroine) is an endearing young lady direct from the Convent who's unconditional love and bravery is heartwarming.
Kaleo Griffith, the narrator, was exceptional. He has the perfect voice for this genre.
I am soooo pre-ordering the next book.
[At the time I wrote this review the first book "Surrender" is no longer available. It;s a shame they pulled it from the lineup because it's such a good story. Although it would be ideal to listen to Book 1 before Book 2 it is not absolutely necessary. Book 2 does review the basics of Book 1 so the reader isn't completely lost to the past events. I think Book 2 does stand alone as a great read. I just hope they bring "Surrender" back soon.]
I already own the Kindle version of Untamed but when I saw that it had been released as an audiobook and read by Kaleo Griffith, I had to buy it again. If you like romantic suspense, this is an excellent, excellent read. I am a huge (pretty much exclusive) fan of romantic suspense and have read an enormous amount of books in this genre (too much romance is boring for me, but suspense only doesn't really pull me in) and I have to say, Pamela Clare is by far the best I've found so far.
Kaleo Griffith is a truly talented performer. As a fluent French speaker with Scottish relatives, I was interested to see how he handled both the Scottish and French accents in this book, since poor accents really ruin the book for me. I must say, he blew me away. While it's true that many of the words were said incorrectly, his accents were so good that half the time I didn't even notice until much later, if at all. I was able to tell who was talking by the tone and accent he was using, instead of having to wait to be told. Excellent job.
Kaleo Griffith had a large cast of characters to bring to life and he did a wonderful job of it, accents and all.
All of it! It was so well written and very descriptive. I could picture the scenes in my mind.
Hearing the characters speak, whether it be in English, Scottish, etc. It gave the story so much more dimension and made me feel as a reader that I was right there in the middle of it all.
The first book of this series introduced me to author Pamela Clare and narrator Kaleo Griffith. I enjoyed both so much, I downloaded this second book the day it was released. It did not disappoint.
Most romances set in this period tell the story of the French and Indian War from an English perspective. The heroine Amelie is the daughter of the commander of a French fort, so we experience events through Gallic eyes.
The heroes in this series are pretty standard romance novel fare; something torments them, they're big, handsome, nearly indestructable, yada yada. Its the supporting characters I find intersting. The women have interesting stories. The Native American family members add interest and inhabitants of the forts provide context for more complex story lines.
I anxiously await the third book. But then we' ll be out of MacKinnon brothers!
I have spent the night listening to the awesome narration of this book. The accents, the emotion, the stunning story, and romance kept me way longer than I had intended. I was not sure I wanted to do an historical but Pamela Clare's I-Team series has been my favorite of the summer. So, I decided to go for it with my free credit. Love, Love, Love the narrator! His voice and the story made this an excellent choice.
Reading is a must-have ESCAPE...
Surrender offered readers not only the love story... but the benefit of real history. Clare did a wonderful job of hooking us with the story whilst infusing true historical elements. However, the romantic facet took a back seat to the characters and history in the 1st installment.
Untamed is a story continuation of the MacKinnon brothers. Though Ian and Annie play important parts later in the plot, the 2nd installment centers on Morgan's experience as a captive of the French at Fort Ticonderoga. No doubt, the relationship between Morgan and Amalie are at the forefront of Untamed. The sexual chemistry was very well written and brilliantly performed by Kaleo Griffith. Have to admit... Griffith is not only consistent between editions, but he makes the MacKinnon men come to life. Major score all around!
