Publisher's summary

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens - town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing - even murder - to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

Featured Article: The Shining—Book vs. Movie

Set in the claustrophobia-inducing snow-covered peaks of an isolated hotel in the middle of the Rockies, The Shining is a classic work of psychological horror that’s just about as chilling as it gets. But it’s so, so much more than your classic story of spirits and a man’s descent into madness—it’s also a tender yet deeply painful meditation on addiction, family, abuse, and redemption. Stanley Kubrick rejected Stephen King's initial treatment of the screenplay, and the author was largely dissatisfied with his novel’s jump to the big screen. So what exactly are the differences between The Shining movie and the novel?

Fantastic as usual contrary to other reviews

I’ve seen several bad reviews of this book, I almost didn’t listen to it due to these. Rest assured this book has the depth and fun of a Stephen King book. It is rich with world building, character development, an ensemble type of story with TONS of evolution in a surprisingly short period of time. If you like his larger works you’ll enjoy this, no it’s not The Stand or It, but nothing is. Download it, get to know Barbie, and Rusty and Big Jim, and Junior and you’ll not regret it.

We are all under the dome.

On this planet we are all under the dome. If we don’t take care of what we’ve got their fate right up until the end is our fate. Thanks Stephen

SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE TV SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's start with narration: Raul Esparza - Um...FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!! He did so well with the differing accents and male to female. Loved it. Ok now onto the story. First of all I had to read "listen" to this because the series left me a bit confused so I was like NO this is STEVE KING! There is more here so I said to myself "Self, read the friggin' novel!" and I was right, as usual. The story was so much better than the series. It was more in depth and I am amazed at how far the TV series veered from the actual story which had a much better ending.

Constant Reader, you know that sometimes Stephen leaves it up to the US to decide what was causing the horror if it's of supernatural basis (aka: Christine) but in this story he actually TELLS US who/what is doing this and I loved this idea!! This was Kids playing in a backyard torturing ants with a magnifying glass/Lord of the Flies (Adult Version). I mean an amazing plot line!! And the ending in the novel was so great and stayed on plot.

The series takes a tail spin and yes our STEVE is involved in the making of the series but as I have always held true: A Novel is NOT a Movie and a Novel is definitely NOT a TV series. Things have to be stretched out and new characters have to be created in that stretching. So things are DIFFERENT!

I HIGHLY enjoyed the novel where I only LIKED the TV series even though there were actors that I thoroughly LOVE such as Dean Norris, Mike Vogel, and Alexander Knox and just way too many to mention!!
If you enjoyed or was confused by the TV series - You have to READ THE BOOK!!! I really wish they had of stayed to the original plot line because it was unique in my opinion!

Interesting from start to finish

It can be hard to get into some Stephen King books due to a slow start at times, but this story was fast paced and kept my attention throughout. The characters were well thought out, and the narration was not hard to listen to.

Excellent performance by narrator

A solid story performed amazingly by Raul Esparza. The range of voices and characters makes this an easy listen.

Good listen!

I really enjoyed the pace of this book. It really makes you think of the “what if” scenario’s. Thank you Mr King and Mr. Esparza.

Love this story

Some of the voices done by the reader were just a bit much
Like how every character under the age of 8 sounded like they were constantly seeping mucus. Beyond that everything was amazing
