Publisher's summary

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens - town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing - even murder - to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

Featured Article: The Shining—Book vs. Movie

Set in the claustrophobia-inducing snow-covered peaks of an isolated hotel in the middle of the Rockies, The Shining is a classic work of psychological horror that’s just about as chilling as it gets. But it’s so, so much more than your classic story of spirits and a man’s descent into madness—it’s also a tender yet deeply painful meditation on addiction, family, abuse, and redemption. Stanley Kubrick rejected Stephen King's initial treatment of the screenplay, and the author was largely dissatisfied with his novel’s jump to the big screen. So what exactly are the differences between The Shining movie and the novel?

Well done

Vastly different from the television series, which I saw her first I rather enjoyed the significant differences and nuances of the characters. The storyline from this book mid lot of sense very logical and nude it the characters from beginning to end

Stephan King did it again

I thought "oh this doesn't look like horror, the premise sounds promising too."
I don't know why I keep blindly trusting king. I should know by now.

good narrator, easy to follow and was surprisingly atomospheric.
would recommend.

Great Novel

This is by far one of my favorite Stephen king novels. I am a truck driver and I listened to this while driving and I loved every second and a didn't want it to end.

Very compelling concept; but lost steam at the end

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I was a bit disappointed in the end - not only with the primary conflict ending (not spoiling), but with the fact that there was no resolution as to what happened to the main characters going forward.

What about Raul Esparza’s performance did you like?

He had a very wide range of characters he had to portray - men, women, old, young - thought he did a great job. May have been a little slow, but that may be more my particular taste. I played it most of the time at 1.5x speed.

If you could take any character from Under the Dome out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Julia, the newspaper reporter - she seemed pretty tough and wouldn't back down from anybody. Plus, if I lived in that town, I'd want to know what she knows.

Great book and Great Narrator...

I think this was a great book in value of words written, the depth of characters, realistic description of how people would react to certain events, and multi-faceted, voiced narrator. Everything came together greatly. This was a wonderful book.

Such great characters to love and hate

Great book sorry the tv version did not do the characters justice. I read the book 2 summers ago but just listened to it. Such a huge different experience. I recommend this book to all who love character driven novels. They are my fav.

Steve I never thought I would find another love like I did in Anne. Thank you.

The first scene gripped me. I loved every character, not all writers can give life like Mr. King does in this story. I have known his work through movies my whole 34 years. This is my first read. I am hooked. The humor in between the tragic really made it for me. Jim's character is the frosting on this cake for sure.
