Publisher's summary

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens - town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing - even murder - to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

Scariest thing is the people

This is one of King's best. I hated Jim Reny and cried with Ollie Dinsmore. I reread this now as a reminder of how absolute power corrupts absolutely, and King reveals it with mastery.

Fantastic!!!

This book will grab you by the throat and not let you go until you've finished it. The huge cast of characters isn't overwhelming. It's perfect. The narrator has one of the best acting voices I've encountered. Put whatever else you are listening to down and listen to THIS right now!

Microcosm

In this story, a small town in Maine is shown to be a microcosm of the world, and this cautionary tale is one we should take to heart. This novel has all of the stylistic elements that I have enjoyed in many Stephen King novels. In addition, this story is an insightful journey into how good things can turn bad in a hurry. The familiarity of the characters, emotions, and actions brings home the real danger of losing what we value most because we take it for granted. There are multiple themes in the story, including the nature of bullying behavior, the power of fear, and the misuse of power. I enjoyed this story at face value but also for it's exploration of human nature and the useful analogies to real-world events. #FearisPower #NeverGiveUp #HumanNature #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Great story. Terrible reader.

The reader lisps, uses British accents for Yankee women and southern accents for literally every bad guy...if he doesn't make them just sound a little stereotypically gay (like something from the Simpsons). He finished sentences too fast and was just awful.

Loved this book my first audio book!

Would you consider the audio edition of Under the Dome to be better than the print version?

I am a busy person and cannot always hold a book (although used to love to read with a real book) but tried this as my first audio book and it was clear, concise and I just loved being able to turn it on and off when I had the free time or when I am painting!

What other book might you compare Under the Dome to and why?

I am now a member of audible and cannot wait to try a few of the books here!

Have you listened to any of Raul Esparza’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No first one, I love how he changes characters very good. Easy to follow.

If you could take any character from Under the Dome out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Barbie!

Any additional comments?

thanks for sharing!
