Publisher's summary

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens - town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing - even murder - to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

Thouroughly Enjoyed

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If "The Stand" anticipated germ warfare paranoia, "Under the Dome" explores what freedoms ordinary people will exchange for safety, while your worst fears about global warming lurk in the shadows.

Any additional comments?

A masterful narration with a clear "voice" for each character. This is a long audio book and Mr Esparza was key to sustained enjoyment. My compliments!!

Not too bad

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

for anyone who likes King, this is an entertaining story. It kept my interest, but there were too many predictable events. it's far from his best, but not his worst.

What three words best describe Raul Esparza’s voice?

Not Scott Brick

Any additional comments?

I had to laugh at some of the voices that Esparza used. The female voices were terrible. And the story's villain, supposedly a lifetime resident of a small Maine town, had a southern accent. LOL.

Steve does a better job narrating his books than Raul did on this one.

But

Not my favorite King novel but I still couldn’t put it down. The audio was mostly good and I’m sure trying to do multiple voices is difficult but the 12 and 13 year olds sounded more like toddlers. Love your work Stephen King! Georgene McDermott.

Great book

What a concept. To be struck by an invisible force. Not only worrying about what is stuck inside with you but also what is lurking beyond.

Imaginative, well written, and interesting.

What did you love best about Under the Dome?

Fantastic writing. Great story!

What about Raul Esparza’s performance did you like?

Really well done!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

What a fantastic story. Good guys, bad guys, murderers, lovers, techies, druggies...they're all there to be loved and hated. Also, don't skip this book just because of the ridiculous attempt at making a TV movie of it. That was crap, but the book is awesome.

Excellent Narration and a Good Story

Where does Under the Dome rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've listened to two so far and it is just as good as the first.

What did you like best about this story?

The author did a great job bringing the characters to life. I have never despised characters the way I did some of those living under the dome.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book made me laugh at times and cringe with fury at others. There were moments that I actually felt like yelling at specific characters.

Any additional comments?

This is a great book with tense moments. While the ending could have been better, I do not regret the ride.

Best in years

I hated to have to turn my car off every day. By part 2 I started bringing my mp3 player into work and the house to listen. This is the best book King has written, outside of the Dark Tower series, in decades. Raul Esparza did a great job bringing the characters to life.
