Publisher's summary

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens - town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing - even murder - to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

Bad narrator

The narrator was horrible. His voices for the characters made it difficult to understand what he was saying and I don't understand why he chose those voices and accents that he did.

Awesome story but...

The concept and writing of this story were awesome; in idea, in theory, etc; BUT there are WAY too many characters for my liking. In the closing King mentions the abundance.
The main characters could have been SO much more meaningful, loveable, and hateable if focused on more than all of the third and fourth party players.
As far as the performance it was pretty hokie with the terribly fake accents, some were irritating, some were laughable.
Good store overall though, it would make a hell of a movie...

anticlimactic

very good narrator but had a hard time with the overly nonsense descriptions and bad ending (my opinion)

A very well read novel!

The reader really makes this book come alive! I was very much impressed with the performance. As for the story line, I enjoyed it. Performance an A+, and the novel an A-!!

Absolutely, incredibly amazing story & narration

Under the Dome, with its vivid imagery, believable world creation, and rich character development, is a perfect example of why King continues to be the favorite author of millions. The story grabs hold of you by page three and doesn't let you up for a breath of air for over 34 hours. And just as you thought his stories couldn't get any better, in comes Raul Esparza with narration that brings the characters to life in a whole new way.

Great story, many characters.

If you are like me, you love the characters that King breathes life into. This book has got them, and boy are there some quality villains... the REAL kind. I like this story to if King wrote Lord of the Flies.

Feelin it!

This was a great book and I’ve already listened to it several times as well as watched the series on tv. My favorite part is when Big Jim Rennie is “Feelin it” I had so many emotions reading this book and all of them were positive. Excellent writing, excellent narration, excellent all around I give it a five out of five!

Hard to follow

I really struggle to finish this book. It started off great but it gets Tangled up along the way with way too many details and it isn't until 20 minutes to the end of the book will you actually figure out anything and then it's over. The narrator was pretty good but the storyline just wasn't my cup of tea. Maybe I didn't understand it completely because it was so much details and useless background information,I stopped paying attention and there's no way I'm going to restart this whole book.
