Publisher's summary

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens - town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing - even murder - to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

Featured Article: The Shining—Book vs. Movie

Set in the claustrophobia-inducing snow-covered peaks of an isolated hotel in the middle of the Rockies, The Shining is a classic work of psychological horror that’s just about as chilling as it gets. But it’s so, so much more than your classic story of spirits and a man’s descent into madness—it’s also a tender yet deeply painful meditation on addiction, family, abuse, and redemption. Stanley Kubrick rejected Stephen King's initial treatment of the screenplay, and the author was largely dissatisfied with his novel’s jump to the big screen. So what exactly are the differences between The Shining movie and the novel?

Good Book

Loved everything about this book until the secret of the dome was revealed. It felt to me it was rushed and weak. But the rest of the book was so good it really didn't hurt my rating. Great performance by the reader!!!

Utterly gripping!

I am what you'd call a "constant reader." I've been reading and listening to SK for close to 20 years. I absolutely loved this book, especially how it relates to the current political climate in the US. I know some people consider his older work his best, but I am of the opinion, Stephen King just keeps getting better and better!

All around good story.

King has put together a diverse cast of characters and developes them well. My only complaint was the ending. It really felt as if it were rushed. The narration is excellent and I hope to hear more from Mr. Esparza. All in all it is a worth while listen.

This is storytelling at its best!

I loved this story. I was a little worried I wouldn't because of some of the other reviews I read beforehand. Boy, I am so happy I went forward.

The characters are well developed and multi dimensional.
The story is rich with imagery that is described so that you can see and feel it as well as just understand what it is.
It has taken the basic premise of "Lord of the Flies" to an entirely other level. It's a deeper, fuller, more detailed story.
Raul Esparza has done a fantastic job in my opinion and expressed the characters beautifully.
Another Stephen King masterpiece.

Got lost amid the characters

I really liked the concept. I found it difficult to keep track of the characters. Was hoping for a resolution of one of the many plot lines.

Loved it!

I have always been a fan of King's but never really looked him up, in a way that i had heard him talk very much or heard anything about him. With that said listening to him talk at the end about being scared to write this book back in 77' puzzled me a bit. How can a man like King, that writes such great stories so well be afraid to write. Im still pondering what exactly he means or his thoughts on the subject at the time....crazy.
The novel was yet another great work by him. You can really tell that there was ALOT that went into this. Favorite part? Honestly how he opens with the woodchuch part is awesome (sry im a little strange to..lol). You can totally tell just from the first few words the detail that is coming your way. Which is true all the way from Jims greed and hate throughout...or Barbie trying the whole time to be be a badass but not be an asshole, even tho he was treated unfairly....all great! The story (fantastic beginning to end)was easily followed but I wouldn't suggest this one to a new King reader due to length and to get a bit adjusted to how he writes (which isnt like anyone else) before jumping into this one. Overall one of my favs so far (and ive read more than a few of his..lol)

Yayy...
