Publisher's summary

They're out there....
Waiting. Watching. Unseen by normal eyes, but all too visible to Slim MacKenzie, a young man blessed - or cursed - by Twilight Eyes.

They're out there....
Lurking in the darkest shadows of an eerie, moonlit carnival. Feeding their twisted needs with human suffering - and fiendishly plotting the downfall of the human race.

They're out there....
But don't scream. They'll hear you.

Koontz at his best

This one isn't for snuggle bunnies! Blood, guts, murder and mayhem across the country. Is Slim crazy or are their really monsters that want to eliminate the human race? Couldn't walk away from this one.

Story starts out good, but get's weird

The story starts out pretty good. A good story in the backdrop of a carnie's life. Properly creepy and suspenseful. Way too much sexual content for me. Lots of semen (lots). The end is pretty far out from reality and I think it detracted a bit (I do realize this is fantasy content). I like Dean Koontz and this is worth the listen or read. The narrator was too old for the character, and kind of stiff.

My all time favorite Dean Koontz book and would love to see a sequel but probably never be done. And maybe it shouldn’t

So good

I’ve listened and read a lot of Koontz, I found I missed this one and wow was I entertained and drawn in. I think I cleared it in 3 days, AirPods permanently glued to my head.

Wrong narrator for this book!

Beautifully crafted prose and an engaging story line, but the narrator for this book is simply wrong. The gentleman has a truly lovely, rich, deep voice entirely appropriate for delivering Shakespeare. But he's obviously not 17 years old and the main character is supposed to be a teenage boy. The dissonance between the content of the story and the voice was distracting for me and kept pulling me "out" of the atmosphere. He simply doesn't sound like a young frightened man. His reading sounds like an older man recounting his youth, and that's not the narrative.
