Story
It was summer in the mountains when five small children vanished from their nursery school picnic. The heat was stifling that day, the tinkle of an ice-cream van in the air.... Three-and-a-half years later, in the dead of winter, the children are returned to their families...one by one. All except for Ivy - the granddaughter of Homicide Detective Kate Wakeland. The other four children say Ivy is dead.

Publisher's summary
A mysterious stranger known as 'The Wolf' leaves an infant with the sisters of Santo Spirito. A tiny silver key hidden in her wrappings is the only clue to the child's identity and so begins a story as intriguing and beautiful as the city of Florence itself. Belinda Alexandra's new novel, Tuscan Rose, is set in Italy during the time of Mussolini. This richly woven tale of passion, love, longing, witchcraft and magic promises to be everything her readers love and more.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Enthralling tale of love and war
We just loved every aspect of this book. Rosa. Antonio and Luciano became a part of our lives as we listened to their story driving along the LA freeways. We couldn't wait to get back in the car and hear what happened next.
It was very well. Researched. We love Florence and learned more about Mussolini and his very destructive influence in Italy through their eyes as members of the resistance.
The narrator did an excellent job keeping us interested. A great read. An even greater listen.

A Must Listen Book
This is an excellent story about a time of mass destruction and hatred. It's about one woman's fidelity to family and country. It's a story that will make you think about your own personal choices and how they affect others. Excellent story.

Many more than 5 stars!!
This is such an amazing story, one of those most memorable books of a lifetime, and to make it even more memorable, Caroline Lee brings each character to life in such a special way. I love her narration so much I'm beginning to listen to each of the books she has narrated.

Worth every minute of listening....23hrs :)
I absolutely LOVE Caroline Lee as the narrator, she really brings each of the charters to life, with every expressional word and emotion in her voice. Listening to Caroline Lee has totally spoiled and I judge every narrator by her excellent performance.
Enough about Ms. Lee (smile) - the book is worth listening.... Belinda's story about Italy, it's history and the World War is fascinating - a little bit too graphic at one point in the story, but World War involving Germany wasn't pretty in the first place. A very heartwarming story about one women's courage to continue to fight and gain the confidence she needed till she found her own happiness.

It isnt fair to review a book that Ive only just begun. But beware! The narrator's attempt at italian pronunciations is exaggerated and downright annoying.

Beautiful war-time story.
Any additional comments?
This was a good listen.
The story gave me insight into Italy's part in the 2nd World War, Mussolini and the hardships that the Italian people faced around his reign.
The story has an interesting plot with a bizarre but surprising twist at the end. Perhaps I would have written the end of the heroin's family history a bit different myself, but it did not make the book a bad listen.
I'll recommend this one.

Good but a drama and really sad at times
This is one of my favorite author and probably my favorite narrator. Yet, this book gave me some mixed feelings because it was very sad. There were times I had to speed up the narration to end the overwhelmingly depressing scenes in the book. I must admit I got frustrated by the sequence of bad events throughout the story. The story and plot are solid in this novel; a good set of characters and very interesting with many well researched facts of the time and era of the story is impressive. I enjoyed the book and recommend to all listeners that enjoy long good books.

EXCELLENT WWII READ!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved listening to this story. Right from the very beginning it grabs you and pulls you in and you can't put it down. The many twists and turns keeps it exciting. The best book I've listened to in quite awhile. The author researched the history of the war and the area of Italy very well. She even includes a dog named Fido who was a real pet that she shared information about after the book is finished. I don't know how this author can top this book! Caroline Lee is my favorite narrator. I could never have pronounced the names of places and people if I'd have read the book. The narrator brought the book alive. Caroline Lee also narrates Kate Morton's books, which are all excellent reads or listens, too.
