Publisher's summary

Keith Stewart, a retiring and ingenious engineer, could not have been happier in his little house in the shabby London suburb of Ealing. There he invented the mini-motor, the six-volt generator, and the tiny Congreve clock. Then a chain of events sweeps him into deep waters and leads him to his happiest discovery yet.

Trustee from the Toolroom is one of Neville Shute's best!

The narrator, Frank Muller, did a wonderful job on the accents and voices of the different characters. This book is one I will read again and again. It leaves me feeling good about life!

I loved its charming proper English characters

It made me wish there actually was a magazine called the Miniature Mechanic. I would love to have seen his work.

One of the most delightful, interesting, and unpredictable ...

This is the first Nevil Shute book I've read. And it won't be my last. The story was engaging, well written, and surprising in spots. The story was so wholesome, the character so charming. I recommend this book highly.

Charming story

This book reminded me of "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry." It was the story of an unassuming, unlikely "hero," who through a life journey grows to appreciate himself and his life.

I was initially a little concerned about my audiobook choice as the narrator droned on a bit about nautical details. But I soon got engrossed in the story and found it delightful and charming.

We should all be so lucky to find such contentment as Keith Stewart in "Trustee From the Toolroom."

I read this book whenever I need to remind myself that life is good.

I love everything about this book: the writing, the narrator, the story. Howard’s care of the children reflects the essence of warmth and generosity.

True Nevil Shute

Many many years ago I devoured every Nevil Shute book I could find in our little library, starting with the classic A Town Like Alice and kept going. I don’t recall reading this one but it’s pure Nevil Shute. Definitely dated but a wonderful read of simpler times and one brave man who sets off on an amazing journey.

A favorite book of 2012!

I found this to be a riveting story with a delightful main character. I had no idea where this story would take me and I relished the whole ride. I just wish it was longer, as I would have loved to know more about Keith's ocean journey.
Muller does a wonderful narration to add to the enjoyment. Highly recommended!

A great story that is well read.

The storyline, like all Nevil Shute’s stories, is interesting. I felt I understood each of the characters.... I enjoyed the interactions between characters, the sense that each behaved understandably. In short, I felt as though this story could have been real. The story is well read and now I will listen to some more Shute stories.
