Once upon a time, not too long ago, a young girl from the projects met Quadir, far from home, in the middle of Harlem. Now the story is told of how it all went down.
It’s the late 1980s, and Gena finds herself in true-blue love with Quadir, a millionaire associated with the cartel. Quadir is faced with combating the art of extortion and interception masterminded by the notorious Junior Mafia, which reigns from the inner-city streets of Philadelphia. Both Gena and Quadir find themselves caught up in the vicious yet seductive world of drugs and money, only to find that success in this game is no easy win. True to the Game represents life on the streets and is like no other story of its time.
There’s no way out once you’re in, and everyone stays in forever … True.
Teri Woods is a native of Philadelphia where she worked as a legal secretary/paralegal for eight years. She started writing True to the Game in 1993 and began submitting it to publishers in 1994. After being turned down, the book sat dormant for several years. In 1998 she began selling handmade books on the street and out of the trunk of her car. Soon she started her own publishing and production company, Meow Meow Productions, now called Teri Woods Publishing.

This audiobook had sound effects, which was a pleasant surprise, but a few gunshots and tire squeals can't make a bad book good. There were far too many characters, which made it hard to remember who was who. The story dragged on needlessly with one shooting and expensive gift after another one. Usually, I'm a sucker for a trilogy, but I'll pass on this one.
I really liked this book. The ending had me anxious to get to book 2. But the next 2 books should be free because they do not meet the standards of book 1.
I cannot speak to whether the author is good at crafting stories, because I just couldn't get through the language and attitude. I quit the whole experience early. I can't imagine how I spent one of my precious credits on this--it's probably my own carelessness that put this into my library, and I'll be more careful to match purchases with my interests.
Cary Hite enhanced the story with his performance, but this is a good story that keeps the listener engaged. The characters are all realistic, they have flaws, yet you like them and care about what happens to them.
I didn't have a reaction. I knew there was more to the story. I was eager to hear more.
This performance is as good as any. He performs the ladies just as well as the men without over doing it. Also, he comes with emotion when it's necessary. Great job.
I think the name fits, but " Love and War" would be a good description also.
This is my second go with this series, so that's saying something.
This book took me back and it was really well written and narrated because it was authentic. I would definitely recommend.
Qua omg he is real definition of real Man / bad boy .
He so far the best reader
When I found out you know who was not dead omg I started screaming I was so happy
Got to read very much worth it its an every day drama in the hod for some its their life !
Started off slow but finally grasp my attention towards the end. As usual narrator Cary Hite always takes you there. I just love the transitions in his voice. A true natural.
I found myself talking back to the book like the characters could hear me...it was true ghetto grit directly from the streets.
The love story between Gena and Kadea.
Gena. Just wished he would have spoke more freely when reading, not pronouncing each syllable as those in the street normally wouldn't.
It did have me laughing aloud and crying at the end...
This was a great read/listen. Can't wait until I get II !!!!
This is a good book of urban drug stories and gangster dreams..... Pretty cool... This is a good listen.. Narrator got this down pack!
