Publisher's Summary

Filled with exciting tales of the frontier, the chronicle of the Sackett family is perhaps the crowning achievement of one of our greatest storytellers. In To the Far Blue Mountains, Louis L'Amour weaves an unforgettable tale of a man who journeys to his homeland, but discovers that finding his way back to America may be impossible.

Barnabas Sackett was leaving England forever to find his fortune in the New World. But as he settled his affairs, he learned that a warrant from Queen Elizabeth had been sworn against him, and that men were searching for him in every port. At issue were some rare gold coins Sackett had found and sold, coins believed to be part of a great treasure lost by King John years before. Believing that Sackett possesses the rest of the treasure, the Queen will stop at nothing to find him. And if he's caught, Sackett will face torture, and even the gallows.

    "A good read!"

I guess one needs to like Louis L'Amour to really appreciate this book, but even if you've never read him it's worth the money, if you like historical novels. He's sensitive to the clash between the Indians and Europeans; yes, Indians. Regardless of what the politically correct say on this matter, "Native Americans" prefer the name Indian. Just ask one.
Anyway, go ahead and spend the money; I bet you won't be disappointed.

    Story
    "This book has it all."
If you could sum up To the Far Blue Mountains in three words, what would they be?

This book has it all: tales of pirates, the old America, before it became what the hero of the story Barnabas warned would come- present day America, a true romance, as well as frontier life among the indians, this book is-in my opinion, L'Amour 's best. It's epic.

What did you like best about this story?

The legacy of a pioneer, even if fiction.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    I couldn't say without spoiling

If you could rename To the Far Blue Mountains, what would you call it?

    The history of " U.S."

    Any additional comments?

Love to see a movie based on this book.

    "real literature"

I absolutely loved this story. A good tale without all the modern garbage that seems so hard to get rid of.

"Story's wonderful but the transmission is NOT."
What did you like best about To the Far Blue Mountains? What did you like least?

Story line is great, but the interruptions ruin the fun.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Barnabus.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jonn Curless’s performances?

    Yes.

Was To the Far Blue Mountains worth the listening time?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

Too many times the reading is interrupted by problems somewhere in the transmission.

    "Great story!"

I saw The Sacketts, TV shows many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Then about 30 years ago I read Jubel Sackett, I absolutely loved it. Now I listen to books instead of reading and I started at the beginning with Sacketts Land and really enjoyed it, and I'm getting excited to get back to Jubal Sackett, and beyond!
If you enjoy stories of the outdoors these are the ones you should listen to.
