Publisher's summary

Third generation Texas Ranger Tyler Steele is the last of a dying breed - a modern-day cowboy hero living in a world that doesn't quite understand his powerful sense of right and wrong and instinct to defend those who can't defend themselves.

Despite his strong moral compass, Ty has trouble seeing his greatest weakness. His hard outer shell, the one essential to his work, made him incapable of forging the emotional connection his wife, Andie, so desperately needed.

Now retired, raising their son, Brodie, on his own, and at risk of losing his ranch, Ty does not know how to rebuild from the rubble of his life. The answer comes in the form of Samantha and her daughter, Hope, on the run from a seemingly inescapable situation. They are in danger, desperate, and alone. Though they are strangers, Ty knows he can help - protecting the innocent is what he does best. As his relationship with Sam and Hope unfolds, Ty realizes he must confront his true weaknesses if he wants to become the man he needs to be.

A Good Texas Ranger Story

If you like John Wayne movies, you will love this story. It has a wonderful unique character who tells much of the story from her point of view and in her vernacular. It's a refreshing change when the story telling is handed off to her, and she proceeds to speak to you as she writes in her diary. These folks face more than their fair share of challenges, and how they deal with these provides you the reader with a pretty clear view of their differences in values and character. One of the more likable listening choices I've made, and I trust you will agree. Cheers, Ken

Texas - A Cowboy, Texas Lawman story up with the Best

Very well written book. Being from Texas and spending many years in South and West Texas the story makes one long for time out in the country. Listen to the book. If not read it.

Such amazing detail

Charles Martin is such a gifted writer that can take words and give you a “ hook on phonics” description of feelings, places and things. Although you know the outcome will be pleasing there are so many twist and turns that keep you engaged throughout the book. The narration is spot on! Some of the subject matter is heart wrenching, unfortunately it’s the the real world we live in. An excellent read/listen.

NOT my favorite Martin book

I have listened to many Charles Martin books, and usually love them. This one however was often so unbelievable. The main character frequently speaks with such eloquence. you know it's coming right from the writer's pen and you cannot imagine it coming from a Texas Ranger"s mouth. And it was just so unlikely. Nice ideas, but the main character was TOO perfect. It got tedious.

One to read a few times…

This will become a classic. Loved this book. Would make a great movie. I plan to re-read this one a few times. The characters are well developed, the storyline is easy to follow… You’ll fall in love with Cowboy and his moral compass.

Another great novel

This is one of his best yet. Vivid and well defined characters made this novel come alive. The themes of faithfulness and redemption can be found throughout the story in many different ways. The reading was very well done and made the characters come to life.
