Publisher's Summary

It could have been just any night, and they could have just been any two brothers - but it wasn't, and they weren't. The scene is an Atlanta bar. The music is loud and the dance floor is packed. The good-looking brother picks up a girl. But when dark deeds ensue out in the parking lot, what happens next can only be described in two words: vintage Slaughter.

From the opening scene to the last line, "Thorn in My Side" is as wicked as it is entertaining - an unforgettable piece of writing from one of the most beloved storytellers working today.

    "Just Awful"

My only thought is that Karin Slaughter wrote this after more than a few drinks at a dinner party where conjoined twins were the topic of conversation. Perhaps this could have been an interesting concept for a story, but this falls short of the high caliber of work that Karin Slaughter is known and highly respected for. This 'short story' is lacking at every level and is not recommended!

    "Amusing."

Karin Slaughter's stories always draw me in. She's like a mean friend, always luring you into adventures and even though you get tired and the endings are downright nasty, you stay to the end and look forward, guardedly, to the next.

This one is a classic example. The surprises are part of the fun so I won't reveal the story. Had it been longer or more expensive I might not give as favorable a review but as it is-- I enjoyed it.

    Boring...lost focus multiple times
And the narration sounds like side show bob from the Simpsons

A departure from the full length book style of Slaughter's. Amusing if just a bit (or more!) twisted!

    "Modern Southern Gothic!"

This short read packs a full punch into the hour it takes to listen to it. It is a delightfully modern interpretation of the Southern Gothic genre. I'm eagerly looking forward to what comes next from this author's fertile imagination!

Nurse, mom, loved to read....but now I love to listen. When I retire I hope to hear waves crashing in 1 ear and audible in the other!

    "An interesting take on twins!"

I have always loved Karen Slaughter and this story is unlike anything she has ever written that I have read or listened to! What an imagination! The story was unique as well as the narrator...they complimented each other. Fun, creepy listen!

    "The Worst."
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Love the author and have listened to everything. Love the Will Trent series, but this one- Yuck!

Would you ever listen to anything by Karin Slaughter again?

    yes

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Just ok - bad material to work with.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Thorn in My Side?

    Everything.

"a waste of time and money"
What disappointed you about Thorn in My Side?

    The story is just stupid.

Would you ever listen to anything by Karin Slaughter again?

Not if it isn't better than this.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Christopher Lane?

    Maybe.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Can't get through it. Maybe anger over the wasted money.

    Any additional comments?

    ick.

    Story
"Awful, predictable, trying to shock drivel!"

I'm so glad this was free and short, it's utter bilge. From the start you can guess the unusual reality of the characters. The crime itself is rushed with no investigation and then an unexplained coincidence at the end. I feel she was almost going for a palaniuk or Matt shaw gross out moment but bottled it halfway through. The outcome of that being it just feels uncomfortable, like the idea of geriatric sex...we get the idea but there's no need to talk to me about it and if you insist on talking about it get to the damn point! Just memorise this book title is my advice; to make sure you never pick it up by mistake. 0/5 if I could rate it that low
