It could have been just any night, and they could have just been any two brothers - but it wasn't, and they weren't. The scene is an Atlanta bar. The music is loud and the dance floor is packed. The good-looking brother picks up a girl. But when dark deeds ensue out in the parking lot, what happens next can only be described in two words: vintage Slaughter.
From the opening scene to the last line, "Thorn in My Side" is as wicked as it is entertaining - an unforgettable piece of writing from one of the most beloved storytellers working today.

My only thought is that Karin Slaughter wrote this after more than a few drinks at a dinner party where conjoined twins were the topic of conversation. Perhaps this could have been an interesting concept for a story, but this falls short of the high caliber of work that Karin Slaughter is known and highly respected for. This 'short story' is lacking at every level and is not recommended!
Karin Slaughter's stories always draw me in. She's like a mean friend, always luring you into adventures and even though you get tired and the endings are downright nasty, you stay to the end and look forward, guardedly, to the next.
This one is a classic example. The surprises are part of the fun so I won't reveal the story. Had it been longer or more expensive I might not give as favorable a review but as it is-- I enjoyed it.
Nurse, mom, loved to read....but now I love to listen. When I retire I hope to hear waves crashing in 1 ear and audible in the other!
I have always loved Karen Slaughter and this story is unlike anything she has ever written that I have read or listened to! What an imagination! The story was unique as well as the narrator...they complimented each other. Fun, creepy listen!
Love the author and have listened to everything. Love the Will Trent series, but this one- Yuck!
Just ok - bad material to work with.
The story is just stupid.
Not if it isn't better than this.
Can't get through it. Maybe anger over the wasted money.
I am a nurse, wife, daughter, sister, and student. I don't have much free time but when I find a minute I enjoying listening to a good book.
There was a humorous undertone that you don't pick up on until the end...
no, but this one was pretty good.
Made me smile!
No, I haven't, but I enjoyed this book very much.
Yes, but don't have the time.
An entertaining short story, but really twisted. Like Karin Slaughter allowed the dark side of her mind free rein on an really unusual topic. All I can say is she must have some awful nightmares to think up this stuff. You just have to read it for yourself!
I would recomend if you like weird and unhappy
I love slauter. She writes most interesting and she is pretty gory
