What made the experience of listening to This Is How You Lose Her the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed the fact that this was read by the author.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters, particularly Yunior, had such an authentic voice. He is flawed and relatable.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where Elvis finds out that the son he thought was his, was not.

Any additional comments?

Mr. Diaz creates fascinating characters with strong voices. He is particularly adept at capturing heart wrenching emotions behind the heavy masks of his multidimensional characters.

Captivating and engaging from beginning to end!

Loved it! Great read. Funny and touching at moments. Enjoyed this immensely. Highly recommend it.

Would you consider the audio edition of This Is How You Lose Her to be better than the print version?

This story is so well told that I travelled to the Dominican Republic;s history and felt what living there and then being an immigrant in the streets of New Jersey.... It was compelling, exciting, well written and a page turner... Thank you Junot!!

Painful and poetic

I read the reviews that were saying it was a sexist novel. Of course I didn't believe it because Junot Diaz is definitely is not a sexist. He talks about it and gives examples but how else to do bring up issues? By avoiding them? Seriously people, I don't know what you were thinking while writing this!
I was fascinated my metaphors he uses all over the book, you have to listen to this!
The book is filled with emotions. Great humor, overwhelming pain...
Also Junot is a great narrator!

A cheaters Guide

Getting a male perspectives on the consequences of reckless intimate behavior was interesting. We always know how the female protagonist feels. This time, the tables were turned …a guys perspective. I loved this audible version especially the creative intro with latin music. It totally puts the reader into a DR mindset. Junior was a product of his environment. He did what he saw without thinking of the consequences. In the end he became his own victim.

This was such an easy fun read. I laughed out loud in public & when it was done.. I started all over again. Just like Junior… lol

no idea, but it left me with the same sad feeling as the Great Gatsby.

What about Junot Díaz’s performance did you like?

I like the way he talks. So raw and then he'll throw in a SAT word. Lots of fun.

If you could rename This Is How You Lose Her, what would you call it?

I wouldn't do that.

Junot Diaz the writer, the storyteller = great!

Always great to read along the text with an audio version of it by your side and this truly was a perfect companion. Glad he took the time and placed great care in his narrating as well!

Terrific Collection of Short Stories

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Junot Diaz’s follow up to “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” which is one of my favorite audiobooks and one of my favorite novels. I also wasn’t too keen on Junot Diaz’s narration at first, mostly because Jonathan Davis’s narration of Oscar Wao was so good but I quickly grew to like it. To me, “This Is How You Lose Her” exists somewhere between Oscar Wao and “Drown.” I felt that the short stories were less minimalistic than in “Drown” but they took place in the same universe as some characters featured in both books make appearances – mostly the character Yunior. I guarded myself before listening to this collection because I thought an audiobook of short stories couldn’t live up to the grandeur of Oscar Wao but fortunately I was pleasantly surprised. The stories here are great.
