Publisher's Summary

Louise Dean's compassionate, funny, and fearless novel immerses us in the lives of two parents, two sons, two enemies - two ordinary families in the vice of history.

Kathleen's son Sean has just been transferred to Belfast's most notorious prison, Long Kesh, and she knows that he will join the other prisoners on their non-cooperation protest. John Dunn has finished 20 years in the British Army. After three tours of Belfast, he's found a girl and a house and a job as a prison guard. In the weeks before Christmas, both Kathleen and John will find themselves in impossible situations, having to survive when everything they love is in danger of being destroyed.

"Bit of work needed on the accents"

I read this book a couple of years ago. It's a wonderful book, so I thought I would like to listen to it. However, the accents are not great, especially the male reader, whose prounication of certain words and place names falls well short
