I really enjoyed this book. It's not your typical mindless beach-read and yet it's not heavy or sappy at all. The mom could be your best friend and the daughter, well, so could she. All around it's a feel-good, everyone gets what he/she deserves book.
I enjoyed this book, but glad it wasn’t the first Jill Mansell book I've listened to...I like the others a lot more. In this one, there's a bit of a theme betrayal, and some of the male characters are real jerks. These themes are not common to Mansell's writing…I'm glad!
Having said that, hearing the internal conversations in the minds of the mother and daughter are hilarious - wanting some things so badly, but trying to play it cool on the outside - funny in a slightly neurotic, awkward, Bridget Jones-y way.
One thing the publisher's description doesn't really make clear is that about half the book is about Jem's adventures in college, the other half is about Ginny's life as an empty-nester. The two story lines intersect and then veer off again in a fun way.
The Jem scenes remind me of my college days, and the Ginny scenes make me picture what life will be like when my kids are all grown. Both fun places to visit via fiction!
The plot is not predictable at all, lots of twists and turns -good!
"A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.” --C.S. Lewis
Yes. It was cute--granted, pure Mansell, but it was adorable and fun and I like to re-read her books every so often; and the narrator did a decent job so I'll listen again.
I enjoyed the scene when Ginny was in Finn's apartment trying not to get caught, and Myrtle the cat jumped on her shoulder from behind, scaring Ginny to death...it made me laugh out loud, because it's something my cat would do.
When Lucy and Davy showed up at the door for Jem
I always laugh and cry. I think I'm just wishy-washy that way.
I would recommend if you like to listen to light, fluffy entertainment, which is normally my choice for driving (I work nights and would fall asleep on the way home if it wasn't something I didn't have to concentrate on, and didn't make me laugh)
Jill has a great ability to make you smile through her fun phrases and english humor. I love how her characters interact and of course I love that she writes a happy ending.
Characters were likeable, and inclusion of the drama in the main chraracters daughters life made the story a little more interesting. Good witty dialogue and believable chemistry beteen Ginny and the love interest. Narater was also very good, accents, distinguishing between characters etc. Overall a feel good 'listen, would reccommend.
"Say What You Feel!!!"
A story of a woman facing empty nest syndrome; how her daughter copes with her first year of university and the romances involved in flat sharing; and the reason why keeping the lines of communication open is vital.
The mother falls for her boss but various things happen, numerous misunderstandings that could have been solved with the characters listening and talking to each other, which got a bit frustrating.
