Should Have Read It Long Time Ago

I had this book for months, but kept on postponing it.. Its really good.. Not as jaw dropping as other big epic books like the wheel of time... but it is a good series...

I think that this series could have been one of those long series with several books to build the characters and the story plot... i'm not saying it was fast in this book, but it could have been longer with more characters and plots..... There were so many chapters were the author jumped for few years...

The Warded Man is based in a world were demons exist and attack humans every single night. People defend themselves by using wards and hide.... A boy grows up hating how everyone hides and no one attack those demons...

In general, I have enjoyed reading this book, and the character build up was good... its ending was very well and made me jump and purchase the 2nd book and read it already.

enjoy!

Interesting story but ...

The story line is interesting and probably will make a good book series, but there are several things you should know. First, I found it difficult to keep some of the characters straight - probably because the narrator doesn't do a very good job of creating different voices for them. Second, this book was clearly written as the first in a series - most of the book is spent introducing the characters and concepts and SETTING THE STAGE for the story.

Slow to start, but really gets going!

This is slow to start. In many books about multiple characters, there are a few pages or a short section about each and they all move forward a little bit at a time. In this book, the character development focuses on one character at a time for a major portion of their life--you really get to know the characters. But, in the beginning, even though very interesting, the sections were long, focusing on primitive living (setting is kind of like wild west homesteaders) and I found myself wondering what is going on with the other characters and when would it move back to them. As the characters are developed, the sections gets shorter and you feel the book move forward at a different pace.

Wow! This is great writing and great narration! I loved it so much that I wrote the review before I even listened to it a second or third time! Could not "put it down". This series is going to be up there with Dragonlance Chronicles!

The Painted Man

I think the painted man is what it started as and I wonder why the change. Means nothing other than start collecting trivia about what should be at least a cult classic. This is serious good stuff! On second listening waiting to get Desert Spear when nearing last chapter. Great book, good reading. Night take you if you don't get this.

SOLID!

This was a solidly good book! Plenty of action and quite a bit of character development to give the story some good depth. Keep in mind that this author can jump around - all your questions get answered eventually in this book or the next.

Reminded me of the Dark Tower books

Something about the world that Peter Brett created kept reminding me of the the world of the gunslinger in the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Not the crappy later books but the great early books in the series.

I really enjoyed The Warded Man. Brett creates a barren world where humans are trapped in their warded cities by the demons of the night. It's a great concept and Brett includes a lot of details to make this world feel real. A perfect balance of magic and reality, this novel really sucks you and and transports you.

There is a lot of care given to character development and because of this you grow quite attached to the people in the book. Peter Brett has weaved a great yarn, it's an addictive story I recommend. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Amazingly Underrated

This series is so unique and simply amazing. It has some slow parts and I don't love Roger, but it really does stand up there with the best of Fantasy Adventure Books.

better the third time

this is the third time that I have read, or listened to this book and each time I catch little nuts that add flavor and depth to the story.
