Good overall story, some cheesy parts

Looking forward to following this author as writing matures. Brought unique elements into the typical fantasy storyline. Character development exists without being overly tedious or drawn out.

Absolutely Riveting!

This book is my first introduction to Peter Brett and I am surprised and pleased to discover that he is a superb writer, so much so that I have added him to my top-tier authors list. Pete Bradbury gave an equally spellbinding performance as he had in Daniel Abraham's 'The Dagger and the Coin' epic.

I particularly enjoyed the author's segmentation of the three primary protagonist arcs, along with providing ample backstory of each where even the secondary characters played real character development roles toward the protagonists. Also, there are several sections that are quite poignant and surprising, where likable characters that one is hopeful for their survival, end up encountering harrowing situations and even cases where a cad ends up having some key redeeming qualities.

Book 1 is mostly a coming of age story and touches lightly on some unpleasant sexual situations.

WARNING! This book will very likely pull your eyes and attention away one's smartphone screen, their spouse and their kids.

Loved it

Fun adventure. Some unique ideas. In the end It seemed somewhat run of the mill. Great performance. I enjoyed the characters but eventually I can't remember any names or events that stood out to me. I won't be continuing this series. Also, I understand that rape happens but it gets so old to read about it. Maybe could have been handled better.

First book on audible I purchased without knowing anything about it. The story is captivating, and the narrator is great.

Inconsistent audio

Audio volume was up and down especially at the beginning. It got better, but was not as good as other books.

Loved It! It's really that simple...

How to describe this book?? Well, it's just one of those you have to buy to understand. Now I haven't finished the series, so I'm speaking on behalf of Book 1 only.

The Warded Man sets the stage nicely for the unavoidable battle between good and evil. The evil comes in two forms: human and demon. At night demons rise from the "core" and reek havoc on towns across the land. The only thing that stands between the living and demons that want to destroy them are ancient wards. These wards are elaborate drawings that can have many different functions. But wards aren't easy to draw. They are easily destroyed by things like weather or human interference. Only a select few can draw and maintain these wards. The are called, appropriately, Warders. Unfortunately, the wards that were once used to destroy the demons (instead of just protecting the living) have been lost to time. By the end of Book 1, the Warded Man stumbles upon the wards needed to turn the tide of the war against the demons. Unfortunately, his first try at bringing this knowledge to those who could most use it, almost costs him his life. He learns quickly that demons aren't his only enemy and that the greed and ambitions of men can be just as dangerous.

This book has many intriguing characters. Although it may sound like it's all about demons, magic, and fighting; it's really much more in-depth. I loved it and I bet you will too.
