Publisher's Summary

Four strangers are summoned to the Villa Dante, a beautiful but abandoned house above the Ligurian coast. Although named in the will of the intriguing Beatrice Malaspina, not one of them knows who she is or what the connection might be. They include Delia, an opera singer robbed of her voice; George, an atomic scientist unable to face what his skills have created; Marjorie, a detective novelist with writer's block; and Lucius, a Boston banker whose personal life is in chaos. Amongst the faded frescoes, overgrown garden, and mediaeval tower, four determined characters begin to change, the sorrow of their wartime experiences growing into hope. But the mysterious Beatrice has a devastating secret to reveal.

    "Excellent story"
What did you love best about The Villa in Italy?

Quite one of the best books to have in your library, well narrated, plot kept to the end, characters interesting, language well chosen. I can recommend this book to all who wish to be transported to the sunny landscape of Italy, its warmth and its peculiarities. You will feel yourself there and involved without a doubt.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All four of them had their interesting characteristics. I give nothing away. Read and discover.

What does Nicolette McKenzie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her choice of dialects was exactly right throughout the book and attention was sustained throughout the novel.

Was there a moment in the book that particular moved you?

When the codicil was found, its simplicity was exactly correct.

    Any additional comments?

A very good light novel, well written and a number one choice for those who enjoy being transported to foreign parts of this complex world.

What disappointed you about The Villa in Italy?

i tried. I listened to the 1st two hours a couple of times and persisted but it was just really hard work. I got 8 hours in, intent on hearing it through, and finally gave up.

    "Interesting and Atmospheric"

An unusual book, which I loved. It's full of mystery and keeps you guessing about what exactly is happening and where it's ultimately going until the very end. The narrator helps to create a mysterious, yet safe, atmosphere with it too and that helps the story along. To sum it up; it's very interesting and atmospheric, with what seems a complete and happy ending.

I wanted to read this book when I found out that Elizabeth Edmondson and Elizabeth Aston (who wrote The Darcy Connection series) is the same author writing under different names and I'm so pleased I did!

    "Perfect!"

This is the most perfect story for a good bedtime read or 'listen' in this case. Beautifully read by Nicolette McKenzie and quite the most gripping plot imaginable with interesting characters and surprises in every chapter. I can, with out reservation, thouroughly recommend this delightful book and a very big thank you to Elizabeth Edmondson for weaving a charming and entertaining yarn.
