Publisher's summary

Workaholic attorney Samantha Sweeting has just done the unthinkable. She's made a mistake so huge, it'll wreck any chance of a partnership.

Going into utter meltdown, she walks out of her London office, gets on a train, and ends up in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she's mistaken for an interviewee and finds herself being offered a job as housekeeper. Her employers have no idea they've hired a lawyer, and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven. She can't sew on a button, bake a potato, or get the #@%# ironing board to open. How she takes a deep breath and begins to cope - and finds love - is a story as delicious as the bread she learns to bake.

But will her old life ever catch up with her? And if it does...will she want it back?

Praise for The Undomestic Goddess

"Light and breezy... Samantha is eminently likable, and overworked readers will empathize with her glee at her first full weekend off in years." (Christian Science Monitor)

"Sophie Kinsella is at the top of the chick lit game. Her plots are fast-paced and entertaining, with the perfect amount of realistic neurosis to accompany her quirky heroines." (New York Post)

"Perfectly amusing... The Undomestic Goddess is a genuinely funny, sweet book. Kinsella is a comic whiz who consistently delivers what her readers crave." (Miami Herald)

"A lovely romantic comedy." (Washington Post)

I love all of Kinsella’s books and this one did not disappoint.

Enjoyable from beginning to end.

First book I’ve heard from this writer and of her others are anything like it I might have a new fave. Very light and funny! Enjoyable characters and I found myself excited to get in the car to listen to it.

So-So

This book was diverting, but not a great work of art.

Easy listening and fun storyline

I have listened to this at least five times. It is such an easy listen partly because Rosalyn Landor is fab with her narration but also because the story is well written. It is not entirely believable but if you just go with the flow and take it as it is, it's a wonderful story to re-listen to while doing chores, crafting, knitting, etc (as you don't need to concentrate as hard as the initial listen).

Cute Book

This is a cute book once it got going. It starts out very slow. Once it gets going a few chapters in, it becomes a cute book.

eh

hmmm, i'm starting to become a fan of Sophie Kinsella. but this isn't one of her better books. it was a good listen, yes. but it just lacked something for me. i'm really happy Samantha realized that rest and relaxation is more sacred than the constant hustle and bustle, because the push and pull was getting quite annoying. good book though. wouldn't necessarily recommend or listen again.

Too repetitious for my taste

I've enjoyed other Sophie Kinsella books, but I rapidly grew tired of the the repetitious lingering over different thoughts and feelings, and tired of all the second guessing in Samantha's effort to make decisions or to understand what was going on.. And it was just too unrealistic for a woman who didn't even know what a vacuum cleaner bag was to become an efficient housekeeper and gourmet cook in just a couple of months--even if she does have a genius IQ. It was mildly amusing, but a draggy story (even at 1.25 speed)--to the point where I wound up skipping several chapters. I did appreciate the British reader though.
