Publisher's summary

Workaholic attorney Samantha Sweeting has just done the unthinkable. She's made a mistake so huge, it'll wreck any chance of a partnership.

Going into utter meltdown, she walks out of her London office, gets on a train, and ends up in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she's mistaken for an interviewee and finds herself being offered a job as housekeeper. Her employers have no idea they've hired a lawyer - and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven. She can't sew on a button, bake a potato, or get the #@%# ironing board to open. How she takes a deep breath and begins to cope - and finds love - is a story as delicious as the bread she learns to bake.

But will her old life ever catch up with her? And if it does...will she want it back?

Praise for The Undomestic Goddess

"Light and breezy... Samantha is eminently likable, and overworked readers will empathize with her glee at her first full weekend off in years." (Christian Science Monitor)

"Sophie Kinsella is at the top of the chick lit game. Her plots are fast-paced and entertaining, with the perfect amount of realistic neurosis to accompany her quirky heroines." (New York Post)

"Perfectly amusing... The Undomestic Goddess is a genuinely funny, sweet book. Kinsella is a comic whiz who consistently delivers what her readers crave." (Miami Herald)

"A lovely romantic comedy." (Washington Post)

A wild ride!

I absolutely adore Sophie Kinsella and this one of hers was a riot! The story was not at all believable, but oh so much fun and really different. It was purely silly and zany, and it made me so uncomfortable all at the same time. I thought the narrator was a teeny bit "off" on some of the male character's voices, but I got used to it.

Abridgement was a mistake

Would you consider the audio edition of The Undomestic Goddess to be better than the print version?

Absolutely not. The Undomestic Goddess is my favorite book of all time, and I read it a least once every three months. The Undomestic Goddess is just a perfectly light, funny, yet interesting and clever read, I joined audible so I could hear it while I did other things. But they cut out so many of the small things that push this book to the next level that I was upset. They made this story way too basic, and left out things that explained the jokes that were made later on. Not just that, but they cut out some of the stronger character moments like Sam standing up to her mother and refusing a job offer where she would have to basically start her career again. Additionally, there a
re a lot of things, like emails and questionnaires that simply don't translate properly into audio. It just lost its charm in all that was taken out.

What other book might you compare The Undomestic Goddess to and why?

None. The Undomestic Goddess is so unique and I've been searching for something similar for many years. I would suggest Sophie Kinsella's books, Can You Keep A Secret, and Twenties Girl though.

What does Katherine Kellgren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice wasn't quite how I imagined Samantha, Guy's american accent was terrible, and I really hated the Scottish brogue she gave Nathaniel and Iris. It alright for me to get past and I loved her Trish voice, but her characters voices were not at all how I ever will picture those of the characters when I read the books. But, I did pick to listen to the abridgement because the unbridged version's narrator was waaay too posh that I couldn't give it a chance. Sometimes the inflection and way things are said aren't how I pictured them.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was very disappointed because this is my favorite book and the voices were wrong and too much of the good things were cut out.

Any additional comments?

If you want a proper experience of this story, please make sure you either read the book or listen to the full version because this is an amazing story.

Cute Story

The story is cute, but the narrator's voice is screechy. I can only listen for short bits and then I have to turn her off. :(

Entertaining

I enjoyed the book, loved the characters, and was sorry to see it end. I thought the beginning moved a bit slow, but after an hour, I couldn't put it down. Can't wait for her next book. Thanks

Undomestic Goddess Is A Hoot

This book is a hoot! The plot is far-fetched, and yet I can see so much of myself in Samantha Sweeting. Sophie Kinsella came into my life when I truly needed to laugh. Once again, she has perfectly met my need. I highly recommend any of Kinsella's books for those of you needing a break from the serious, real world.
