Howie’s group disembark from the Isle of Wight, but when the ferry they take breaks down they climb aboard a Royal Navy supply vessel at anchor outside Portsmouth Harbour to find a huge horde of undead. We meet Maddox and a group of council estate children who have survived the apocalypse by taking refuge in a cannabis plantation.
When a horde of undead attack the children, Howie tries to save them only to find they turn on him. Eventually a truce is called, and an uneasy alliance begins to develop.

While I've enjoyed all 5 books in the series. I felt shirt changed with this book. It didn't cover enough ground.
The story line is so well written. I cannot get enough this series. well done
For the first time, we get a sense of the world outside of Howie's little band. So far, we've been focused pretty much him or those connected to him. This is the first time that we see things from a point of view totally unconnected to the main characters. We get to see how a different group of survivors has coped with the situation. It seems as though Dan Morgan has gotten better at this. His voices are more well defined then they have been previously. All in all, a fantastic listen to continue the story.
I thought this book carried along the story just fine! Adding to the story perfectly and it got into the backgrounds of others that were in much different circumstances within the same apocalypse.
No worries, they meet, ending in new deaths and new friendships. What more can you ask for?
I live in CA where the traffic is a nightmare. It could take 90 mins to get to my location when it should have only taken 25 mins. Audible!
this book deviated from the series storyline. Howie and his group play a very small part in this book. the main characters are a group of thud kids and how they are handling the zombies. of course, Howie does cross their path...it will be seen if this group of kids is threaded back in the storyline.
Yes, but it must be one that is not offended by the over use of the "c" word. While I am not easily offended, the amount of vulgarities in this book can be off putting. That being said, a good zombie novel is hard to come by so finding one makes you want to share it and this is one that I will share. The scenes are well set, they don't come off like they are written by someone that lives in their mother's basement and their only experience with the word comes from video games.
just hearing what happens to Howie and his gang.
You can actually tell the characters apart by his use of different voices.
Not really, but it is a "page turner"
Like I said if you can get past all the swear words, this is actually a very good series.
Attorney - love to listen to audio books
This Part 5 introduces the "gang" of kids led by Maddox. I cannot decide whether I like or hate Maddox. I tend to dislike him more often than not. He does not treat Howie with the respect and appreciation he is due and that offends me!! I dearly love Howie, Dave, Clarence and the "Lads" and I do not like when they are not treated well. This Part 5 is a little different from the rest of the books in the Series. It is still outstanding, but does not feature the Living Army as much as other books. Haywood continues to create outstanding characters with his excellent writing and Morgan continues to bring them alive with his excellent reading. This is a gripping series. I started with the free Deleted Scene (an hour long book) and was hooked. I listened to all that were in Audible.com and then started on the Kindle versions for the rest. I have now finished Day Nineteen and must wait until Haywood write the next one. I am so addicted that the wait will be unbearable!! The series never gets flat or predictable. It is always interesting and compelling from Day One to Day Nineteen.
"I love these stories"

"You need this book in your life!"
Amazing, engrossing and unputdownable (a new word I invented just for this review)
How well written it is.
He takes you from your lounge or wherever you are listening from right into the story, you are one of the guys, you are in danger of getting munched by a zombie and the characters are you best mates saving your bum!
The best zombie film in the WORLD
This is one of those books where the writing and narrating are just ment to be together. I wouldn't Change anything it just all goes together like it should.
the narrator is so good!!! incredible that all those voices and accents are coming from one person. amazing job
"Not so patiently waiting for the next books"
Simply, the, best
Its humour and heart throughout, and Cookey as always i bloody love you!
Dan Morgan has comfortably assimilated into Mr Howie. Bringing a beloved character to life.
Yes, like all in this series.
Being a fan of most things Zombie and reading loads of authors in the genre, Its my opinion that there is no one better than Mr Haywood at his craft. We care deeply about the characters he has created. I cant envisage ever becoming bored with this series.
Beware Dan Morgan will be replaced in season 11 ruined whole series for me.
Haywood and Morgan was a match made in heaven.
