Its an weird thing but my favourite genre to read is murder/mystery books but when it comes to audio books, I love ChicLit! Odd I know!
Magical, sweet and dark
Wolf was my favorite character. His innocence and loyalty made me want to jump into the book and cuddle him.
I've listened to a couple of his other audio books. I enjoy the way he presents a certain genre of story but if you are not use to his style, and with a long audio book, I can understand why some people find it difficult to listen to him for extended periods.
Again, Wolf. His innocence was just so sweet and his genuine affection/love for Jack was beautiful. He was dragged into a world not his own by Jack, suffered from it, but was never resentful and stayed true to his
I loved the two world/twinner/time-travel concept - its Ying and Yang. The story shows the good and evil of humans and how destructive we can be.... BUT ... it also shows how a human boy can reverse that evil in the name of love.
This is the second book I have listened to on my Iphone and loved it. Being new to audible I found it slightly bizzare being read to at my age ( 27 plus GST)however I have loved both books and narrators. Frank has a deep voice and the further into the book you get the more engrossed you get :) This was a great book and Frank did it justice, especially playing Wolf. I am now about to download The Black House and am glad Frank is narrating again as this will blend very well. Job well done mate :)
couldn't get into the book at all as the narration was so irritating
stop dragging out the end of each sentence
couldn't listen long enough to come to a conclusion
I got so annoyed by the narrator's voice that I couldn't bring myself to listen pass the first 5 minutes. So I cannot comment on the book itself. I'm off to Borders to purchase a hardcopy so I can actually finish this novel. Listen to the sample before committing yourself to nearly 30 hours of the same annoying voice. The narrator places a breathy emphasis on the last word of nearly every sentence!! It distracts from the actual storyline!
"narrator spoils this book"
Ive read the book twice and was looking forward to having it read to me - but narrator style spoilt this for me. I didnt even get to the 2nd chapter - gave up.
yes yes yes
I loved the idea that we might not just look like - but we also smell like our parents.
"Riveting Nightmare Trip"
This really fast paced journey in and out of parallel worlds traces the journey of a boy anxious to save his mother from death. His terrifying experiences throughout pile up one on the other until you are left breathless. With the usual very nasty characters found in the Authors offerings plus Werewolves', Monsters and exceptionally clever trees to keep young Mr. Sawyer on his toes I began to think he is 'Superboy'. I challenge even the most unimaginative amongst us not to be able to picture all that is described in stark and vivid detail. A very good reading which made for a most exciting listen.
"voice over guy"
The narrator Frank Muller said every line of this book like he was doing a voice over for an action film trailer & I mean every line.
"One of his best. A mini Dark Tower"
Frank Muller and Stephen King are a great pairing. The Talisman a great tale of a boy undertaking a great adventure in order to save the life of his mother.
Thoroughly recommend this one, especially if you like King's style of work.
I bought this for a long journey, I love the book and have read it a couple of times & was looking forward to hearing it read to me. I managed about 5 minutes of the book before the narrators voice annoyed me to the point of turning it off. I listened to Under The Dome again, which is excellent and beautifully narrated. It's a great book, but horribly read.
"Poor choice of narrator"
I listened to the first few minutes and also read the reviews before purchasing, normally I like to think that all is not lost but this is BAD the narrator is awful not only does he whisper the last word of practically every sentence but his voice is monotonous. Dreadfully appalling I am a Steven King fan but I can't get into the story because the narrators voice is hilarious. I find myself giggling inappropriately and loosing the thread of the story - not a good thing. So here I am an hour into this novel and I'm sorry to say whoever employed Frank Muller needs to read the reviews I rate it a miss totally through choice of narrator. I will however continue listening because I am a Steven King fan. My advise to Frank Muller 'don't give up your day job'.
"Was the Narrator Frank Muller or Clint Eastwood?"
The story is interesting but just a little too weird, even by stephen king standards, for me.
A little predicable
Was it Frank Muller, I was convinced by the end that it was Clint Eastwood, every single line is read in exactly the same way that Clint Eastwood says 'Go on puck, make my day!!'
Probably not, just too weird.
Read Under the Dome, equally weird but far more entertaining!!
"Thoroughly enjoyable - 2nd Book Please!"
I really enjoyed this audibook, I love Frank Muller as a narrator and he is well suited to Stephen King. Anyone who likes the Dark Tower will also like this however I was massively disappointed to find that I cannot get the second become because of a licensing restriction that affects the area I love (Yorkshire). Absolutely gutted about this and sadly audible haven't been much help. 5 stars for the story ZERO for the customer service.
"Awesome... why didn't I read this sooner"
I have tried on several occasions to read this book and couldn't get into it. Having listened to the audiobook I can safely say that it is great book and cannot for the life of me understand why I struggled to actually read the damn thing.
Just need the audiobook of the sort of sequel - the Black House.
"Great book irritating narator"
This is a great book and I was looking forward to lying back relaxing listening to this, unfortunately this is not possible. The narators voice is the most irritating I have ever heard, every third/fourth word for some stupid reason he lengthens the word and tails it off into a whisper/breath. To be honest, if he stopped doing this its a voice you could listen to easily but this thing he does is so irritating I lasted 15 minutes before I had to swith it off. I thought I'd try again the next night and give it longer and lasted half an hour I couldnt take anymore. I wouldnt mind as much if there was reason to do so like for suspense but he does it regardless of the situation in the book.
I'm SO glad this was my free audiobook
