I love books because they transport me to the real past or imagined future. I don't have time for T.V.

    "Book fans will be disappointed"

My bad. I totally missed the part about this download being abridged. I discovered it too late, after realizing several good parts of the book were missing. I've read the harcover many times and it was evident the Audible story had been shortened. The narrator was an overacting dork, growling or yelling his lines throughout the book. It was perfectly obnoxious. Why didn't they stick with Simon Vance, who narrated the first three books in the series? Caveat emptor.

    "ABRIDGED!!!!!!! AWFUL!!!!!"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

    NO MORE ABRIDGED!!!!!

What was most disappointing about Anne Rice’s story?

    It was ABRIDGED!!!!!!!

How could the performance have been better?

    NO ABRIDGE!!!!!!

    Any additional comments?

I made the mistake of purchasing this without looking that it was abridged. I kick myself for the complete waste!!! It's horrible to do this to books..just horrible!

Over all, it is a pretty good story that moved very fast because it was abridged. If you want to get a brief synopsis on the story, this is the way to go but if you want the whole story, you are better off to read the entire book.

"Not What I Thought I Was Purchasing..."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The book itself, yes. The audible version... No. I didn't realize it was abridged and that was my fault for not paying attention to what I was purchasing. I was trying to go back and forth between my book and the audible and got all excited thinking that I was so far ahead in the book since I was listening to the audible in the car and while conducting errands. What I didn't realize was that I was listening to an abridged version which means I have missed quite possibly a lot of really interesting pieces in the actual book. Very disappointing.

Had I not been going back and forth with the actual book this audible gets a 3. The voice acting was decent and it gives you the gist of the story in a little over 2 hours. Just sad there isn't an unabridged version.

If you’ve listened to books by Anne Rice before, how does this one compare?

    N/A

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The voice of Lestat was great, but the voice for other characters were eh. The French accent for Lestat was horrible. I couldn't help but laugh every time he spoke with the accent.

Could you see The Tale of the Body Thief being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    Yes. I'm not sure.

    Any additional comments?

Please make unabridged version to the Vampire Chronicle books so those who like do to what I do (i.e. go back and forth between the actual book and audible) can do so.

"Good to listen too, but old copy"

First let me say that this had to have been copied off of a tape because there were times when the narration would slow down or there would be extra noise in the background. Don't let this, however, stop you from listening to Richard E. Grant's great narration of this story.

You can still listen to this tale even if you haven't read/listened to the other vampire tales. I read this years ago, since I'm in college I don't always have time to read a book, so choose to listen to the story again. I still enjoyed Lestat's new venture at discovering he has a human side, even if it was forced upon him. There are new characters introduced and some you'll recognize from past vampire tales.

Have fun with this and hope you continue on with the other tales (though if you want it unabridged, read the books).

    "Even better on audio!"

I have previously read this entire series and have been enjoying rediscovering the series through audio books. This one is a short, side tale, that doesn't have too much to do with the rest of the series. I almost skipped over this one because of the length but picked it up during one of the sales. I am so glad I did!

The reading of this book really brings the story to life. I was interested and enthralled throughout the entire book, even though I had already read the story in print. The story is another of Anne Rice's tales which pull you in and bring you along for the ride. As usual she made me love/hate Lestat and the characters he has surrounded himself with. I have always loved David Talbot and was happy to see him as a central character in one of the stories. Even though this one is a bit shorter and doesn't take the long twisty/turning path that most of the series does you shouldn't skip this book. It was well worth the read and very entertaining.

    "Embarrasingly bad..."

I absolutely adored the previous older vampire books from Anne, but this book almost makes me not want to read any more of her newer stuff... Completely without charm this one, Lestat is (never thought it possible) lame, and the reader..! This Richard E.Grant is absolutely overdoing the voicing, making even the simplest sentences sound like dramatic action, to the point of making it almost hilarious when the book`s mood is mostly serius. He is also faulty of the vampires sounding like angry grizzly bears 90% of the time, plus making the erotic scenes so embarrasing to listen that it is almost unbearably akward to manage through them. So far the worst audiobook I have ever downloaded, and since it really holds nothing important story-wise, I recommend people so shamelessly skip it and move to Armand.
