Publisher's summary

Just a week before their marriage, Christine's fiance calls off the wedding, leaving her heartbroken. With hopes of helping her through a difficult time, Christine's best friend Jessica enrolls them both on a humanitarian mission in Peru, to work at an orphanage called El Girasol, The Sunflower.

It is while working at the orphanage that Christine meets Paul Cook, a successful and charismatic American doctor who has fled the States after one fatal day took away his career, his faith, and the woman he loved.

Unplanned events lead Paul and Christine into the jungle of the Amazon, where Christine must confront her deepest fears, and she, and Paul, must both learn to trust and love again.

I didn't expect to love it so much

The author is so descriptive of the places and people that I immediately went out to see if this travel group still exists and if I could too go visit the orphanage.

I think the book especially pulled at my heartstrings knowing it is a true story. Unlike many other reviewers I was completely surprised by the ending.

A wonderful love story.

This story was a great love story. The narrator read smoothly and accurately. I will read more of Richard Paul Evans' books.

Different but a Great Listen

The Sunflower is another book by Richard Paul Evans. As with many of his books, it takes place leading up to Christmas, yet it is not a Christmas love story. Yes, it “is” a love story but Christmas is in the far, far distance. It’s a great read for any time of the year. You won’t be disappointed.

Dulce Historia!

I read this story so many years ago. My first time on audio book. Mr Scott does amazing storytelling. I'm from a neighbor country originally but he made every part of the story believable. Thank you Paul for another sweet, loving, courageous story about heartache, disappointment, life at its worst but as always Life can not exist without a little HOPE. Gracias por todo lo que hace!

Great Read of a Good Book!

Sometimes you want something to read that IS the cup of cocoa on a cold day. I wanted to read something that I knew would leave me feeling like I'd had the equivalent of a literary hug. Even though the story was a little bit neatly wrapped up, the themes of the book are universal and never unwelcome.

The performance by Campbell Scott was worth the listen alone. I enjoyed his narration very much and looked forward to listening. I will look to see other titles that he narrated. It was that good!

A lovely story, quite simplistic

This is a short enjoyable book, perfect for a trip as it is about a trip. If you're planning or thinking about a trip, or already on one, you might find this very inspiring! It was also very inspiring to hear about the orphanage, made me want to go a visit. The story is not very nuanced, but rather simplistic. But again, quite enjoyable.

biography or fiction?

This was a sweet, simple story with a gentle plot. Nothing exciting, no strong rising action, debth of character or climax. It felt like nonfiction where the author gave a lot of info on Peru and some of it's challenges, particularly homeless children. It was interesting but not riviting. I would like to know if it was biographical? This would be great for people who are interested or have traveled to Peru. I'd give it a 3.3.

Sunflower

This was a nice little story. Decent escape when you're in traffic on the way to work. I found I did want to listen more than just when commuting. I really liked the reader too.
