Publisher's Summary

The new novel from the New York Times best-selling author of The Devil Wears Prada and Revenge Wears Prada - a dishy tell-all about a beautiful tennis prodigy who, after changing coaches, suddenly makes headlines on and off the court.

Charlotte "Charlie" Silver has always been a good girl. She excelled at tennis early, coached by her father, a former player himself, and soon became one of the top juniors in the world. When she leaves UCLA - and breaks her boyfriend's heart - to turn pro, Charlie joins the world's best athletes, who travel 11 months a year, competing without mercy for Grand Slam titles and Page Six headlines.

After Charlie suffers a disastrous loss and injury on Wimbledon's Centre Court, she fires her longtime coach and hires Todd Feltner, a legend of the men's tour who is famous for grooming champions. Charlie is his first-ever female player, and he will not let her forget it. He is determined to change her good-girl image - both on the court and off - and transform her into a ruthless competitor who will not only win matches and climb the rankings but also score magazine covers and seven-figure endorsement deals. Her not-so-secret affair with the hottest male player in the world, sexy Spaniard Marco Vallejo, has people whispering, and it seems like only a matter of time before the tabloids and gossip blogs close in on all the juicy details. Charlie's ascension to the social throne parallels her rising rank on the women's tour - but at a major price.

Lauren Weisberger's novel brings us exclusive behind-the-scenes details from all the Grand Slam tournaments: the US Open, the French Open, the Australian Open, and Wimbledon. Charlie Silver jets around the globe, plays charity matches aboard Mediterranean megayachts, models in photo shoots on Caribbean beaches, walks the red carpet at legendary player parties, and sidesteps looming scandals - all while trying to keep her eyes on the real prize. In this sexy, pause-resisting novel about young tennis stars who train relentlessly to compete at the highest levels while living in a world obsessed with good looks and Instagram followers, Charlie must discover the secret to having it all - or finally shatter the illusion for good.

    "Weisberger aced it"

As a former competitive tennis player and an avid reader I LOVED this book. I sincerely appreciated Weisberger's attention to tennis detail and keeping things accurate but also making a fun, flirty and addictive story. I couldn't stop listening - it was so easy, breezy and fun.

    The PERFECT summer read/listen.

    "Enjoyable chick-lit"

I really enjoyed this book, it's predictable as all heck, but it's chick-lit and for me that is part of the genre. I found Charlie likeable and even though her life is far removed from my own I could relate to her problems, choices and doubts. At times I felt like we were missing gaps of the story as often there was a considerable time lapse from chapter to chapter, but overall I think this worked as too much minutiae is also not good (and is often a pit fall of this genre IMO).
I really enjoyed the narration as well, my only comment there is that the men often ended up sounding like teenage boys as the narrator's voice is fairly high. Aside from that minor point it was an ace job and her voice is very pleasant to listen to.

    "Last Weisberger book for me."

I have religiously read , in this case listened to, all of Lauren Weisberger's books. Devil wears Prada was great. Everyone worth knowing was enjoyable. Chasing Harry Winston started to deviate. These last two books have been underwhelming to say the least. It just felt rushed , choppy, and predictable. In addition to that, I just felt like someone was throwing together a whole bunch of Random journals exerts while rushing to meet an editors deadline. Over all the story leaves a lot of questions open and answered. You end up feeling like the characters are never fully fleshed out and you don't really get to know anybody. By the last chapter of the book I was just overwhelmingly annoyed thinking I will clearly it's not going to get better and it will just be another open ended plot. Predictably, I was right.

I don't know why I had low expectations for this book but I was pleasantly surprised. Really fun story, likable characters and a decent plot that moves along throughout. A fun, light listen.

"Another hit from Weisberger (a come-back, really)"
Would you listen to The Singles Game again? Why?

Yes. I actually am :) I dozed through a bit and want to be sure I heard all of the story. In order and context, etc.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Singles Game?

I never want spoilers, so I won't dish any out. I will say it was a consistent story, no - well, perhaps one teeny bit of "huh? Um, OK" during one bit, but otherwise very steady.

Which character – as performed by Heather Lind – was your favorite?

Charlie! So easy to love Charlie. And just as i felt with the Narrator of "The Royal We" and the first few "Shopaholic" books, I 100% believed the reader as that character. My only negative with the reader was something that actually resulted in giggles from me but might drive others bonkers - Foreign Accents. !Hot Spaniard Tennis Star Guy! sounded like an Italian... something short. Lawn Gnome? Can anyone visualize that? :0) And Bono.... one line, so funny. He would forgive though, he seems a decent fellow (also a man with an Irish accent plus years of globe trotting) I was taught to not do an accent if it was not perfect, but that was by a VERY serious coach/Director. Sort of like someone in this book, actually!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I usually listen to audio books during migraines, which is about 6 days a week, but it was too good to put me to sleep. So about a day and a half :)

    Any additional comments?

Just the accents bit. There are tennis players from many different countries who pop in occasionally and I didn't love the Spanish male character or the Russian Arch-Nemesis... or the Ukrainian, possibly because I have a lovely Aunt from Ukraine who sounds so far from this. So I advise just hearing the words they are saying, don't get tripped up in it. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this reader, and immediately went to find more from her! (After 15 years of Migraine + audio book fun? I know what I like!) Solid tale from author to reader. And it was fun to dive into a world I didn't know much about - that would be the on-the-road-life of people who are all about tennis. Interesting world - another one in which women sure seem to have it tougher. Which makes me respect female tennis players at this level even more!
