Publisher's summary

A serial murderer known only by a grotesquely apt nickname—Buffalo Bill—is stalking women. He has a purpose, but no one can fathom it, for the bodies are discovered in different states. Clarice Starling, a young trainee at the FBI Academy, is surprised to be summoned by Jack Crawford, chief of the Bureau's Behavioral Science section. Her assignment: to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter—Hannibal the Cannibal—who is kept under close watch in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

Dr. Lecter is a former psychiatrist with a grisly history, unusual tastes, and an intense curiosity about the darker corners of the mind. His intimate understanding of the killer and of Clarice herself form the core of Thomas Harris' The Silence of the Lambs—and ingenious, masterfully written book and an unforgettable classic of suspense fiction.

Critic reviews

"Scary Tales are always best when told out loud, which is why a novel such as The Silence of the Lambs works so well on tape." (Playboy)

"Even if you’ve already loved the movie and the book, you’ll still love this production of this wildly successful thriller.... This telling should not be missed. Acclaimed and popular narrator Frank Muller does his usual great narration by changing timbre and the level of his voice and sometimes his accent. The characters sound exactly as they should in this wonderful production. It’s probably wise to stay away from listening to this while eating, but otherwise it’s a triumph." (AudioFile)

Best performance on audible

This is the best performance on audible. Makes me not want to listen to the rest of the series as they are different narrators.

Excellent in all Forms

I found the reader exquisite. The book fulfilling and pleasing to the mind and the ear. I highly recommend to anyone that has the stomach for books by Thomas Harris. I only wish that I could find Hannibal in the same quality.

great book

the book was great. my favorite was the way the narrator captured the voices and personality of the characters. if you've been the movie, you can't help to picture the actors portrayal and it synced up perfectly.

The silence of the lambs was great!!

This is by far my favorites audio book from audible. Not only is the story artful and beautifully written, but Frank Muller's narration is stellar! This is my fourth time listening!

Loved it!

What can you say about Dr. Hannibal Lecter besides brilliant! This story kept me on my toes the whole time I have seen the movie, but the book is much better.

If you loved the movie then you will love the book

I am a huge Hannibal Lecter fan, so this book was right up my alley. I found that the dialogue between Starling and Lector was much more in depth and made more sense in the book than in the movie. I encourage everyone to listen to this book. it is unlikely that you will be disappointed.

Great

Better than the movie, loved it. Although I'm going to break out the movie now and pick out the details the movie didn't cover.

Worth reading

What made the experience of listening to The Silence of the Lambs the most enjoyable?

Its an excellent idea but not as intelligent as people like to pretend it is. Better idea than execution.

Who was your favorite character and why?

the Doctor of course. Jack Crawford in this book will make you yawn and the author glosses over the killers history.

What about Frank Muller’s performance did you like?

na

Who was the most memorable character of The Silence of the Lambs and why?

Any additional comments?

worth your time but not Earth moving
