Publisher's summary

Michael Corleone is returning to the U.S. after the two-year exile to Sicily in which listeners left him in The Godfather. But he is ordered to bring with him the young Sicilian bandit, Salvatore Guiliano, who is the unofficial ruler of northwestern Sicily. In his fight "to make Sicilians free people", the young folk hero, based on the real-life Giuliano of the 1940s, has made both the police and the Mafia his enemies. So when Don Croce Malo, chief of the Sicilian Mafia, and the policemen who has been tracking Guiliano each offer to help Corleone find the elusive Robin Hood, betrayal seems inevitable.

Mario Puzo has created a sequel to The Godfather that is every bit as compelling and dramatic. But The Sicilian is a distinct literary achievement in its historical inspiration and its vivid portrait of Sicilian peasant life.

Narration is good, contrary to many reviews

I was surprised to see so many negative comments about the narration speed and flat affectation. I thoroughly enjoyed the main narrator; the pacing, emphasis, Sicilian/Italian pronunciation, all of it. There were some production miscues here and there, but nothing that detracted from my listening experience. The story itself is a great companion piece to The Godfather, a compelling read/listen and a triumph for Puzo. Disregard the narration naysayers.

Sicilian review

Great story!

The voice of the narrator didn't seem right, never engaged me fully and I'd often have to replay portions because my focus would drift.

Good novel - but recording speed too fast

I read this novel many years ago & enjoyed it, but wanted to revisit the story recently in audio form . The recording had something wrong with the speed- or the narrator was speaking way too fast - & when I tried to slow it down to .75speed, it then echoed every word . There was cast of characters for the dialogues , & all were pretty good , except for the voice of Michael Corleone- it was pretty awful.

Great story / horrible narration

I loved the story but the narrator was much too fast and no emotion at all. Unfortunate because the story is too good to be read with no emotion

Excellent story, horrendous recording

I am glad I made it through the entire book, but it was in doubt multiple times. From the robotic main narrator to the Don sucking wind after every other word, the absolute worst was the actor who voiced Michael. Rather than a reserved thoughtful cunning character, he sounded like a street kid from Boston. Almost requested a refund a few times but liked the story a lot. I would recommend the book but NOT this audiobook.

disappointed

I'm a huge fan of the Godfather. I was disappointed with this story. I thought it was anticlimactic.

Read like SGT Joe Friday from Dragnet

Just the facts ma'am. Rapid monotone with little emotion or inflection. The cast was better, but didn't overcome the narration
