Publisher's summary

In 1879, Steve Dancy sells his New York shop and ventures west to explore and write a journal about his adventures. Though he's not looking for trouble, Dancy's infatuation with another man's wife soon embroils him in a deadly feud with Sean Washburn, a Nevada silver baron. Infuriated by the outrages of two hired thugs, the shopkeeper kills both men in an impulsive street fight.

Dancy believes this barbarian act has closed the episode. He is wrong. He has interfered with Washburn's ambitions, and this is something the mining tycoon will not allow. Pinkertons, hired assassins, and aggrieved bystanders escalate the feud until it pulls in all the moneyed interests and power brokers in Nevada. Can the former city slicker settle accounts without losing his life in the process?

A great western with plenty of surprises!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character in the book has plenty of surprises as the author reveals who he is. I listened to the two books available here on audio, and then read the last two books. The author may write more as he has left plenty of room for it and it has been written recently.

Which scene was your favorite?

When this man defends the honor of a lady in a town that is abused by a pair of bullies.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend this book series - if you like Louis L'Amour books or William Johnstone, you will like this!

The Incredible Shopkeeper

A must to listen too. Lots of humor, suspense and action. Steve Dancy, the main character, might be the most memorable soul on both sides of the Rockies. Well written and ranks with The Cowboys and The Cossacks. Take a chance with this masterpiece; you will laugh and will learn a thing or two.

The shopkeeper

The shopkeeper book covers a guy that moves out west. This is an interesting book and holds your attention. There's action and a good story line. Steve. Dancy does things his way and gets what he wants. He does what he has to do to get what he wants. This is a five star star book. This is the first book in this series. I will get the next book. A good classic style western

Book was well written and read by the best western narrator out there. The shop keeper was just what I needed a western that wasn't about cowboys, Indians or mountain men. Granted these are normally my favorites but I needed a change and I needed a western. This book hit the mark and showed that rough and tough men of the 1800s were sometimes greenhorns.

Plodding story

Any additional comments?

I do like a good western story, but this was unlike most of the westerns I've read. I didn't care for the main character, Steve Darcy, as much as I expected to. He didn't struggle much with his conscience, for instance, and he condoned actions that were more than questionable. His wealth made it very easy to obtain things and the financial and business transactions were just tedious. Making "deals" for things is not very interesting, especially when it was bribery. I often wished the author would just "get on with it" and write some action, actually.

The book was certainly disappointing after the reviews I read.
