Beautiful Christmas story!

A beautiful story through the eyes of a child. This is a story about how one little boy understood Jesus.

Too Short, not much Depth

Unfortunately, this little short story is more like an essay. The majority of this audio recording includes a reading of the Christmas story in Matthew from the NLT and a brief “About the Author” snippet.

The story is about a little boy in complicated circumstances who has a shoe box. The concept was inspired by Francine Rivers’ own special box. If ever there was a worry or anxiety that she could not get out of her head, she would write it down and put it in her box. This was to physically signify she was giving these anxieties to the Lord. Unlike Rivers, Timmy, the principle character, doesn’t put worries or anxieties into his box. He puts all of his favorite things. Some items are silly, like a star sticker, while others are more somber, like a letter of apology from his father. All of his favorite things in the world, trivial and otherwise, he sets at the foot of the manger as a gift to Jesus.

It’s a touching image, I was just disappointed by the lack of depth and length to this piece. I expected more, I suppose.

Great story of love!

A story of a child’s faith shown in his interaction with others. Jesus wants that from us! Just a child’s faith!

I Wish It Was Longer

The shoebox is a fantastic story. The Final third of this audiobook is a recitation of the New Testament’s nativity story. Of course, I love the nativity story but in this context it felt like filler when there should have been more original content.
