Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author Stephen King's beloved novella, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption - the basis for the Best Picture Academy Award-nominee The Shawshank Redemption - about an unjustly imprisoned convict who seeks a strangely satisfying revenge.

A mesmerising tale of unjust imprisonment and offbeat escape, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption is one of Stephen King's most beloved and iconic stories and it helped make Castle Rock a place listeners would return to over and over again. Suspenseful, mysterious and heart-wrenching, this iconic King novella, populated by a cast of unforgettable characters, is about a fiercely compelling convict named Andy Dufresne who is seeking his ultimate revenge.

Originally published in 1982 in the collection Different Seasons (alongside 'The Body', 'Apt Pupil' and 'The Breathing Method), it was made into the film The Shawshank Redemption in 1994. Starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, this modern classic was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, is one of the most beloved films of all time and is IMDb's top-rated movie of all time.

Critic reviews

"When two giants team-up, power follows. King needs no introduction, and Library Journal calls Muller the first superstar of audio. In this program Muller tells King's earthy story of perseverance in Shawshank Prison in raw, gutteral tones. Harsh though the story is, the delivery carries the intimacy of a friend talking to the listener from the passenger seat....Muller's flawless reading enriches King's powerful story, providing a superlative audio program." Extraordinary!

What made the experience of listening to The Shawshank Redemption the most enjoyable?

This is on my top three list of best, most valuable and most exciting books list.Great story, great characters and extremely believable!

What other book might you compare The Shawshank Redemption to and why?

If there is a book that is comparable, I have yet to read it.

Shawshank Redemption does remind me of the hit series 'Prison Break'. Same setting, but a lot more realistic I would say...

What does Frank Muller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Frank Muller is an amazing artist with his voice! Reading this in my own mind would be boring compared to his narration. I believed that Frank Muller was the Author and that the Author was the lead character - It is that good.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh yes...

captivating

Hard to put down. One of my favourite Stephen King books. No horror here but a very good story. Frank muller, as always, is the perfect narrator.

Better than the movie of the same name..

Would you listen to The Shawshank Redemption again? Why?

Yes, once I forget it I'd definitely listen to it again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Shawshank Redemption?

The details given in the book that are left out or changed in the movie, which I enjoyed all the same (the movie I mean)

What does Frank Muller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great narration

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Shawshank Redemtion is an excellent title.. I'd put a tag line like Life of an innocent man in an American Prison and a crooked warden!

Any additional comments?

If you liked the film, read this book. It's great.

Wonderful story

Stephen King is some writer. His words flow like a river in full flood, smooth and seamless. I loved this story, and the narrator was excellent.
