The Shack | [William P. Young]

The Shack

Mackenzie Allen Phillips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack one wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change his life forever.

"A story that keeps you interested"
What made the experience of listening to The Shack the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the narrator. I enjoyed the story. It made me cry one minute and smile the next.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I wouldn't say it kept me in the edge of my seat, but it was a joy to listen to.

What does Roger Mueller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Roger Mueleer is good at bringing the characters to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Overcoming sorrow through faith

    "Great Book!"
What did you love best about The Shack?

The unusual portrayal of God being both Father and Mother

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Shack?

There were so many but when the Holy Spirit and Mac were in the garden and how the garden with all the beauty amongst the weeds was actually Mac's life! Also when Mac was in the cave judging God.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I did not care for his voice or his lack of emphasis in his voice. Wish it was narrated by Max Mc'Clean

If you could take any character from The Shack out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Jesus! Papa! Sarayu! All are one so them as one

    God

"This book will change your perspective about GOD."
What did you love best about The Shack?

The way that I was written draws you in from the very beginning. The fact that it was originally was written for his children only, to me it's a great honor to be able to read something that he only wrote for them to begin with.

What did you like best about this story?

For me I truly felt like I was there in the shack with papa the whole time and it was amazing.

Have you listened to any of Roger Mueller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I have not listen to any other of his performances.

If you could take any character from The Shack out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Papa, because I just want to be in the presence of God even more than I already am.

    "I love this book"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Shack to be better than the print version?

Yes because you get more than just the book you get an hour listening to different people talking to the other

What other book might you compare The Shack to and why?

Cross roads because it was written by the same author

Which character – as performed by Roger Mueller – was your favorite?

I like all of them none of them are not my favorite

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The thing that made me cry was when missy died and when they discovered Missy's body

    Any additional comments?

This is an awesome book. I learned a lot.

    "worth it"

The best book I have ever read...or should I say listened to. I appreciate the audio book because I was not able to make it past the initial story on paperback. being a mother it was hard for me to read. I wanted to finish it, but I couldn't seem to pick the book back up. After quite a while I decided to listen to the audio version. This was life changing for me. I was able to finish it with many tears smiles and laughs along the way. Roger did an AMAZING job and encaptured me with each word, pause and expression he read. this review does not give any spoilers. I am sorry for that. Just know that this book, pysically or electronically, is most definately worth the cost 100 times over!

    "Blessing to you"

I have to admit, I steer clear of anything with sadness or suffering! I am part of a group of men on a journey to learn how to grow with Jesus! I chose the audio version because reading is the fastest way to get me to sleep, lol!
I was so taken by this book that I am compelled simply to write and say thank you! From my heart to yours, thank you!

    "Amazing"

Fascinating story but the beginning is a little difficult -- being a parent's worst nightmare. Loved his concepts of God. Now I want to use "Poppa God." I just wish I had more understanding at some points. Maybe having the written version to go back over vs audible might help with that. Listened while driving, sometimes also difficult while crying. Very touched by story.
